another 3d doodle, testing front projection and basic photogrammetry as an alternative to using video footage and motion tracking.
about a days work in total including r&d.

i showed the wirefame towards the end to show how little geometry is actually required to trick the eye.

background modeled and textured using a single image ( from openfootage.net/) displacement animation driven by an audiomapped aftereffects sequence.
as usual, lightwave,photoshop,aftereffects

Can I steal this and use it on my show reel.

Haha I'll send you my rate card :)

I was thinking of doing a full tutorial of some kind
Based on this project if there was enough interest.
Covering these main sections ...

- camera mapping and environment setup (lightwave & photoshop)

- creating the sound activated displacement map textures (lightwave & after effects)

- creating the cube animations from the animated maps (lightwave)

- scene setup and rendering passes (lightwave)

- comping and grading (after effects)

Anybody any thoughts or interested?

That would confuse any cat for sure!

Very interested in how you did that. Tutorial please!!

Really nice! When I looked at it first time @ work I haven't notice anything unusual, but now that yellow Fiat Seicento looks tad weird - quite "static":)

Yeah it's not perfect, more of a visual trick.
It's because there's no perspective change,
the light strip in the roof gives it away as well.

When used for a real project it is ofton passable
As its very rare for a shot to be played on a loop
In a production.

The bouncing boxes using the audio set up out of AE and how that drives what ever your doing in LW is what interests me if you do a tutorial.

Nice! I'm interested in this.. It would be great to see a tutorial :)

This is a great little example of the stuff we will get to play with in 11.5 and the AE-back&forth!

Thanks for sharing that!

Edit: In my own mind, I had something else going.
This is an exemplary example of what all we can do in LW without a compositor. The AE portions are big bonuses!

Solid Work! love it , esp the style ... element3d could drive that also.

what do you mean by that, OnlineRender?

I have avoided looking at that stuff...

Oh THAT car park. I hate parking there! LOL

Define 'basic photogrammetry' -- HOW basic?

Looks great, and here's another vote for a tutorial.

Pretty basic, you can see the geometry I created
In the video. Building the basic structure, cloning out
The cars and creating boards with the clipped/alpha mapped
Cars on to enhance the parallax.

On another note...

If I did the tutorial it wouldn't be step by step as there's
a lot involved and its a kinda intermediate level. So if
You needed individual steps it may be a bit advanced for beginners.

It's be free of charge as well

Just go advanced and most people will get something out of it.

The look of it isn't basic for sure! Nice :)

I fully agree with djwaterman:)

Can you post a link to this animation? It keeps coming up "Sorry" when I open the thread. I went to your main site and searched for "parking lot", but nothing came up.

The replies make the animation sound great and I want in on the fun, too.

The forum doesn't seem to show embedded

Cracking stuff! Would love to see a tutorial, esp. on the front projection stuff. Be advanced as you like!

In the UK they are called "car parks". (Assuming the Search even worked.)

Pretty basic, you can see the geometry I created
In the video.
To me, and YMMV, 'photogrammetry' usually implies some sort of measurement, but I take it you just eyeballed the ground plane object???

Anyway, that's a very sellable bit of kit, and I know we'd all love to see a tutorial.

Now THAT'S what I'm talkin' about! Definitely worth the wait.

Jeric, searching on "car park" and "car parks" didn't work, either.

That's probably down to the search engine... or something (like perhaps it wasn't used at all in any form).

But, just sayin', not everybody uses US-centric terminology. :)

Haha I probably added to the confusion as I called
It "parking lot" although I'm in the uk :)

Ahhhhh he said he went to my "main site" and searched.
I'm assuming that he means Littleloud.com (my works site in my sig)

It's not on there, my personal doodles live on Vimeo

You assume good. And, originally, you said "embedded Vimeo posts on iOS devices". This sounds to me like the video is actually on an iOS device (smartphone?) and Vimeo just links to that device. I'm probably wrong, but I'm still working with stone knives and bearskins.

I'm using Firefox 18.0.1 on a Win 7 x64 geezer box. How did everybody else see the video without a link?

Same as you and I see the link! Strange...
Anyway, interesting stuff here, it would be nice to know how to do something like this without tracking.
Cheers
