Lot of google research, and map data purchased, high res texturing and high poly amount..mostly worked on within Cinema4d environment.
Something along 8 Hours/per frame for some shots here.

Nice find. If you get the blueray edition it has the most detailed making of I've ever seen. Worth more than the movie itself. Probably 3 hours of docu. Ridley Scott at his age is still very sharp. His attention to detail is amazing. The story and logic in the movie itself was not so good.

Indeed, have to check that..thanks for the heads up on the behind scenes.
Visually it was pleasing at some stages...except for creature design in my mind, and as you mentioned the story, dialog didnīt reach the level it could perhaps.

eyecandy and well done visually mostly, but falls flat on other areas.

interesting to see which aproach they took based on real location and rock formation, rather than use special landscape software like terragen or vue.
I opened google earth and went to the wadi rum location, and itīs cool to sweep around those rock formations, from which they did location and path survey before purchasing actual elevation data.

for a cheaper penny..perhaps, you could get rhinoterrain (if you have rhino that is) ..it letīs you import google earth data nicely it seems, not the type of lowres elevation you get from sketchup.

Fun to see Ridley Scotts sketches and understand how important those are for his vision and as blueprints for the team.

They mentioned that there was no way they could get all of the eyecandy in to the movie that were in the concept art, I would have liked to see some more of those nice rocks in Steven Messings concept art, but
I donīt think those made it to the Big screen.
