View Full Version : Multipass, splitting Diffuse and Shadows?

I need to break out a scene so that my shadows are on one layer and diffuse on another. How do I do that? I use exrTrader a lot and use the basic colour buffers all the time. I see there is a shadow buffer but it's ultimately only a matte, the shadows are still rendered into the Diffuse buffer. I know I could render the same scene out a few times turning various settings on and off, but its hard to track (no real
Mac friendly solutions) and I'm hoping to cut down render times.

Can anyone help?

Lightwiki was a great resource for this, but is down at the moment.

Color your shadows, same than your light.

Hi Denis, thanks for posting! That sounds simple but I'm not quite following. Can you expand a little more?

Go the the Light Shadows tab,
set the Shadows Color like your Light Color,
nothing else to do,
your Diffuse Color Buffer will not get shadows,
but your Shadows Buffer will still get them.

It really was that simple. Thanks Denis, hadn't heard of that trick, will give it a whirl.
