View Full Version : I have a gift for you, huge Earth maps!

Where can a post these 21600 x 21600 maps? Each covers one quadrant of the Earth, eight maps total, four maps cover each hemisphere. Total zip is about 1.5 GB. All from a NASA project I did about 5 years ago. They are sweet. One trick I do is use one map and tile it over the sphere if a shot will show just one quadrant or less.

Share this on other forum and we'll see if we can get these in your hands!

PNG format.

They are those maps, just most people don't know about the very large ones.

I can probably help you out with that. I can provide space and bandwidth for those maps. I'll set it up later since I'm late for work.. Ouch! :P

Thanks in advance Shrox/Bitboy - would be most interested in playing around with these! BTW do you have a link to an image/video of the project you worked on?

There's so much good stuff on the NASA website - and the other one - I just thought it would be a shame if people didn't know what else was up there

Oh yes, but one often has to wade through stuff to find what you are looking for. They also have a very good model of the ISS, although some modules are more detailed than others.

..probably not needed now but Google Drive allows sharing of large files.

I've got the ZIP-file from Shrox and it's online here: http://maps.drsys.eu/

I'll keep an eye on the bandwidth usage to make sure the sites I have there are not taken down - but there should in theory be enough :-)

Great gift, thanks.

Do you know if there is the equivalent for looking outward? Full sphere star map.

Space!

It's not the best way to go though, I trimmed down the Milky Way portion to use a cylindrical map on an object, and points for the stars.

Has bandwidth been exceeded Bitboy? I just tried to grab these and it gave me a 404 :(

Edit: It's ok, I'll have a look through the Nasa site and pick them out :)

Weird,

I got this...

Not Found

The requested URL /upload\HugeEarthMaps.zip was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

But it didn't look as dramatic as that... I just added a bit of artistic license :P

Ok, got it. I fixed it so it should work now. Thanks for the help in letting me know the error!

/upload\HugeEarthMaps.zip

It looks like the backslash after the word upload is where your problem is. It should be a forwardslash.
