View Full Version : SKB Case - TC455

Anyone know if the 20" Deep 4U Rolling Roto Shock Rack 3SKB-R04U20W house a TC455? I am hoping the 2" extra inches that the covers may allow will work to house one.

Thanks in advance,

Did it fit?

No one ever got back to me so I am going with traditional foam shock-mount cases. The traditional foam shock-mount is something I know well and was recommended by my buddy Jef as well.

Ah too bad, i'll have to give it a go and report back.
I don't believe a word Jef says, he is conspiring to damage all other Tricasters so his is the only one left, everyone knows that ;) .

Hi Jose,

We picked up a 1SKB-R908U20, this is an 8-space 20" SKB rack and the 455 fits in it just fine. We even strap the Control Surface, keyboard and mouse in the lid before we close it up, plus put a 23" LCD into the other lid too!
This is not a rolling rack, but just wanted you to know that the 20" depth is deep enough from the 455 thanks to the extra deep lids.

ps - We got ours at Full Compass for $494.00, free shipping too!

Thank you very much for the info.
Which CS, the 450CS?
The LCD is just carried or did you mount it into the lid?
What about all the empty RU space?

Hey guys be very careful with your TriCasters in those cases. Make absolutely sure you are using the recommended rack slides from NewTek. If you mount the TriCaster with just the front ears I guarantee you eventually will have problems. It's not just a TriCaster thing. It has to do with any heavy piece of rack mounted gear in SKB cases. Due to their open design there is lots of play available compared to traditional shock mounted wood flight case. In SKB cases make absolutely sure the back of the TriCaster is well supported.

Of course if you are not shipping it and just hand carrying it in the back of your SUV that is one thing. That's best case scenario. If you are shipping by FedEx/ups or air cargo/luggage, you will have more vibration and drops.

Hi Jef & Jose, what company do you like to go with for the shock mount rack for everyday use and shipping. I have not had to ship yet, but would be very nerve racking if I did.

If you asked me two months ago, I would say Calzone/Advil. Since then I acquired a used Clydesdale case and I can honestly say it is a well built case. From what I see on Videolink web site, they have improved on it more so I would consider their case as well.

I still love the case I designed for my 850 (855 is in it now). Folks around here ran away because it's expensive, but it has kept 3 different TriCasters safe and sound over the past 3 years. $1000 is a lot for a case, but if you ship as much as I do, it's well worth it, but not so big that you HAVE to send it freight. It can go as checked baggage. Right now, I'm working on a solution on the other end of the spectrum that will let me ship as regular luggage without any overage fees. Wish me luck.

Hey Travis, try the cases from www.Videolink.ca. They are very well built (kind of heavy) and are ATA rated. They ship from Canada, so there are extra fees involved, but they are the best TC cases I found out there. Bruce or Maria at Videolink will take good care of you.

Do the rack rails fit the 450/455/460 too, and are they necessary.

Edit: Answer yes they fit.

They are a must-have unless you want your Tricaster to break in transport.

"The NewTek Rack Rails are designed to fit the racks of the Tricaster 8000/850/855/450/455 production switcher. The package contains the necessary hardware required for quick installation."

FYI the rack rails will not fit properly on the 455/460. They block the built-in ears on the front so you can't secure the unit properly.

Also the rail slides are longer than a 20" SKB rack depth, so they simply do not work (they overlap, you would need to cut them).

I know that this is a older thread, but can any one post pics of their tricaster 460 in the SKB case (1SKB-R908U20) along with the newtek rails.

Damn, I just noticed that there was a second page and that rally1 had already posted pics of the newtek rails not fitting on the 460 or in the case. Has the rail problem been fixed for the 460? Probably would not make a difference on it fitting in this case or not, but I would think by now the rails would be compatible with the 460.
