View Full Version : Lightwave 11+ HUB Crashes on Startup by Imshadi

Just thought I'd help around anyone who happens to go through my same problem.

I was dealing with some pesky booleans and after a crash, the HUB became corrupted somehow and would start crashing everytime lightave started. This is because the Hub's config files get broken, but not the files you find in Lightwave's config folders but the ones that are hidden within Windows. These files should exist only when the HUB is running. All we need is to find them and delete them.

The fix (Windows 7):

1. Quit LW's apps
2. Go to the Organize menu on any explorer window and select "Folder and Search Options"
3. Switch to the View Tab.
4. Uncheck "Hide protected opertating system files". You will get an "Are you Sure you want to display this files" requester. Click YES (Later we will set this back to its safe setting).
5. Check the option that says "Show hidden files, folders, and drives. Now we can find the hidden files.
6. Go to the folder C:\Users\"YourUserName"\AppData\Local\Temp
7. You will find a bunch of files with names like Hub.Arc, HubConfigurationActionButtonColor.Arc, HubConfigurationAutoSaveObj.Arc, HubHubOptionsHelpWebSite.Arc, etc. delete them all.
8. Try running Modeler or Layout. The Hub should now load. The files will reappear, but the will not be corrupted now.
9. Restore the "Folder and Search Options" to "Hide protected operating system files" and "Don't show hidden files, folders, and drives.

Hope this is helpful.

Oliver (yes, I'm shady...)

You found the fix to a problem that a lot of people have with the hub not only in LW 11 but in older versions too. It works just fine. Thanks!!!

Did you try this in LW11.5? It should be fixed in that.

That was 11.0 when I experienced the problem. It happened to me only once, and I wouldn't know how to reproduce it. Hopefully it is fixed in 11.5 since all it takes is to erase the files when the program first starts to avoid this crash. One would say it is a simple enough solution.

Actually, I think it happened to me again with 11.5 when I replied to this thread, but now I'm not sure. Damn memory!! :(

LW11.5 hub is the main culprit. Somehow it believes modeler to be the 11.0.3 version. When you forget, it opens the object in 11.0.3 but as read only.
Make the mistake of saving the object in 11.5 and you get the read only in 11.0.3
I have given up on 11.5 totally and gone back to 11.0.3.
Displacement doesnt work in layout, modeler crashes every 20 minutes, and the hub is making objects read only. Rounder is still a 50-50 whether it is going to crash modeler or not.
I DO like the bezier connections in the node editor though.

What I posted is a fix for a very rare event that happened to me on Lightwave 11.0. I had no idea such problems had been happening to 11.5. I'm too busy right now to think about upgrades and can't take the chance that buggy software will ruin a project. Let's hope those most bothersome bugs will be fixed soon.
