Just a quick question :

I have been wondering for years of why it is so slow to delete objects from a Layout scene.
For example, now Im working on a quite heavy arch viz scene which contains a house, lots of clip map grass and 10 hires tree models. Its quite smooth to work with the scene (loading objects, cloning trees, changing surfaces, etc...) but if I want to delete an object like a tree, ground plane or anything it takes 1-2 minutes for the object to be removed from the scene. Why does it take so long? This also happens in more simple scenes although with not so long times.

Does someone know the reason?

Never had this issue. Granted, my scenes are probably not as poly-heavy as yours (no trees), but still a good several million polys (some objects well over 500K polys). Deletions are nearly instant on LW 11.x, Windows 7 x64, 6 gb ram.

Builtdown, how much ram does you system have?

On any OS allocating is fast, and freeing memory is slow.

Freeing memory that has been moved to virtual memory (disk) even slower..

Check out disk activity while deleting objects.
