Does anyone know of any reasons FiberFX would consestantly crash? I've been experimenting (I'm very much a novice in it's use) with it. I created some guides in modeler, and when I use them in layout to create the hair my porgram crashes at random times. Are there any "gotcha's" I need to be aware of to make this thing work?

Thanks,
Ross

So, you're creating splines and then converting them to 2point poly chains right? Then applying the FFX to the 2 point poly guides correct? If you're doing that it shouldn't crash ime.

Yep, that's what I'm doing.

k, make sure you aren't using configs from another version of lightwave. That will crash FFX every time.

I'm loving these "GOTCHAS" threads-- they are full of practical information!!!

Now if we can just keep them few in number and focused, WIN!

I'll check the configs, thanks. The problem I am having happens on both a PC and MAC, so I think, the problems gotta' be something I'm doing (or not doing). I'm attaching the .lwo file I'm experimenting with. Layer one, is the model, layer 2 is the guides I created, by creating open curves and layer 3 are the 2 point ploys created by clicking the "strand maker" tool.

Not sure you (or anyone) has time to look at it, but I appreciate any help.

Loaded object, added FiberFilter, pressed F9, rendered fine.
Adjusted settings, F9, fine.
20 renders later different settings, still no crash..

Which version of Lightwave are you using? Previous versions of FiberFX could be a bit crashy and in 11.0.1, it would definitely crash when rendering through LWSN or even f10.

However, much of that was fixed by 11.0.2. FiberFX in 11.0.2 got me through an entire production at work last summer for several human characters and it worked fine.

I have 11.0.3. Think I am going to try to uninstall LW and then reinstall. Just seems like there is something going on other than FiberFX (I'm having issues when trying to animate a rigged character too). I really do apperciate everyones time. The LW community is one of the best.

yeah in my case, this happened to me where all my plugins were acting wonky and crashing. Then I discovered my 64 bit lightwave was using plugins from my 32-bit lightwave. lol that's bad. Most likely my fault.
