View Full Version : Fresnel-ish transparency leaves artifacts behind-- achieving a smooth transition?

using INCIDENCE I'm trying to get a smoothly gradated transparency on a cylinder. (see image)

Unfortunately it leaves behind a hard edge.

How can I get a cylinder that just smoothly disappears at the edges?

Change the second key down to Linear smoothing.

Thanks Swampy, that's MUCH better, but there's still a definite line. :(

Do you have any speculatity, refraction or reflection in your surface? Any of those could make your edges visible.

What lertola2 said, those edges look like some kind of specular/refl/refr effect, not a side-effect of the transparency gradient itself.

Make sure all keys are set to linear interpolation in gradient, and you must have Refraction Index 1.0. And Alpha must be 100% in middle key, not 95..
