View Full Version : Non-additive volumetric lights, dammit. (grrrr!)

So, it appears to be pretty easy to manage to whip up a NON-additive volumetric light. Especially without trying.

It seems a' moi that EVERY volumetric light should be additive-- after all, it's putting (virtual) photons into the scene, not opaque dust.

But whenever I make an inevitably ill-advised foray into volumetric lighting (the render times are formidable, and I don't mean that in the French sense) at some point I wind up wrestling with something that appears to be shooting jets of soot into my composition rather than beams of light. Not what I was hoping for.

Anyway, that's my plight. I guess the feature request here is "can all volumetrics be additive?" or for an option for same.

(I miss(?) the old "Additive Transparency"-- that was a convenient hack.)(Can't check it out right now 'cuz I'm rendering a volumetric light!)

Have you set your opacity right, attuenation?

Crap... do you have to use ShadowMapping w/Volumetric Lights? I figured RTracing would be required.

Well, there's a tonne of rendertime wasted....
