View Full Version : New Speed Compo Vintage robot image

11-10-2012, 03:30 PM
Hey everyone

I just finished a new image for a speed combo
Deadline was 3 hours and the theme was We are the robots.

so i did some research and found an old vintage windup robot from 1977 i had when i was a kid
så i desided that would be a sweet little project.

so after 2 hours and 34 minutes i have made this image in Lightwave 10.1 :)

Dont know if any of you had one of thease as a kid but in case you did
i hope it brings a nice memory to you

Sir, that is truly awesome. Please share the surface settings in some way, they are amazing.

11-13-2012, 06:02 AM
Very nice shaders! As DJWaterman says... would love to see a break-down of the surfacing. The SSS plastic material is luuurvly!

11-13-2012, 06:14 AM
Plastic surface has fell out awesome, really a photo-realistic

11-13-2012, 07:21 AM
Super nice! I think it needs some atmospheric effects now like maybe some bloom/glow.

11-13-2012, 12:23 PM
Well frist of All thanks for the very warm welcome to the image. Ime happy to hear you like it

Reguarding Bloom you Can have a point there. Miss the old gaffer bloom havnet seen any Bloom filter A's good at that

Reguarding the breakdown i Will Think abit and perhaps release the entire scene with model and all
For you to inspect. ;)

As others have said the materials are looking really nice, great stuff, even better for a speed competition.

11-21-2012, 08:59 AM
Super awesome! Yeah most people just use a bloom or glow filter in post these days. There are PS techniques out there too. But what you have is really nice!

11-21-2012, 08:53 PM
Well now it just looks super real. Maybe a bit more contact shadow but who's to say.

11-25-2012, 07:19 AM
Super cool little robot, lovely shading and rendering!

Hey everyone

We are now past the deadline of the combo, and are now in poll time,
so i have prepared and packed up the scene for shearing with you guys.

Inside i have put some release nodes that you can have a look at
but for details about the setup itself and surfacing you have to open and look around in the scene :)

So i hope some of you can learn abit from this.

Here is the scene for you guys..

IF any of you wanna see some more stuff about lightwave
feel free to drop by my webpage at http://www.trhlogos.dk
i have made 57 of my video tutorials public there for online viewing
could be theres somthing you seek :)

Best regards

Thanks mis for sharing :D

Cool tutorials there Mis!! Love the pepper corn one... I tend to get hung up on imperfect meshes, so it's nice to see someone not bothering with cleaning up the errors on the booleans! Good stuff, and they look lovely too!

Thanks kind sir! :D

I love robots and your toy image looks like a photograph not a rendering - great job.

12-02-2012, 11:22 AM
Lovely! Animate it if you have time.

12-03-2012, 05:11 AM
Hehe depents on what ime doing, but somtimes i also thing about what is visable in render and what is not :)
happy you like it and my tuts

Pauland How nice to hear :)

Bazsa73 year i bet that could be nice but again would it be any good if it had no story just walked there ?

Also then it would be alittle hard to do the after post that is done, but redo it on an animation for each frame :)
and i would need to get the Sound from it when it walks from the wind up engine or what its called. hehe

12-05-2012, 06:30 AM
Thanks mis. Looks great!

Hope you don't mind?

I had to change some things just to get the render times down.

12-05-2012, 07:02 AM
Excellent. I was waiting for the bang at the end (when it falls off the table)..

12-05-2012, 11:31 AM
Lol Sweet as hell hehe

there are a few points thow , :) the robot doenst tilt that much when walking do too its wide feet
the arms are normaly static and doesnt rotate. and as its a wind up figure the eyes doesnt light
but nice indeed :) nice to see you gave it the time to do it but year
could be real fun if it ended with the sound of it going off the table :)

nice man
can i get the video just for the fun of it now i made the robot :)

Btw i would be happy if you would write on your youtube
that the robot was made by Mis of TRH Logos // www.trhlogos.dk :)
wouldnt be too much to ask now would it

12-05-2012, 12:56 PM
Glad you like it. I've updated the youtube discription to :-

A quick animation of a wind up robot scene that was posted on newtek.com , robot was made by Mis of TRH Logos // www.trhlogos.dk. Animated and rendered in Lightwave 3D V11.

Hope that is ok. :)

If you PM me your e-mail, i'll send it to you.

I had to guess at the animation, I haven't seen it working. I did have the legs just rotationg around while the body moved smoothly along..... It didn't have much character. So I got carried away!

I might extend the animation to include the fall and maybe some bullet stuff? don't know. Good idea though.

12-05-2012, 01:36 PM
My feeling is that the unseen thump, or perhaps just seeing it drop off the table (the camera could turn to follow the movement), is more effective than repeating the bullet-time cliche.

I really like the movement as it is, regardless of realism!
