This is some illustration work I amd doing for the for the USPTO.
All models are done by me in Lightwave, and the assets are convected into vector in Illustrator.

The idea is to do a cutout style animation using toonboom in the near future. ( and we pan to make 3D models of the illustraors assets, for 3d Printing).

Great looking illustrations.
Can you give an overview of the work flow?

The technique is fairly straight forward.
I model all non-character assets in Lightwave.
Render in Cell shade mode a PNG image of at least 3k.
Then I take that high resolution bitmap render to Illustrator and convert it into vector using the illustrator tools.

I rework the outlines to make them more smooth and then I use the wonderful gradients in Illustrator to give a more stylized look.
Then I composite the characters in Illustrator.
I have done some experiments using this technique with Toonboom for animation.
I promise to post more on those experiments soon.

Thanks for the description. I will have to give it a try.
