View Full Version : 'Pile of items' -- Bullet very slow, can do w/Instances?

Can one combine Instancing with Bullet? I wanted to attempt a pile of snowflakes, but just creating the appropriate Bullet-friendly object is bringing my machine to its knees.

Would it be possible to have instanced objects correctly 'pile up'?

I assume you're using actual geometry of the snowflake shape. Can you use cards with the shape mapped on to them? That would make a simulation go much smoother.

Welllll, I wanted them to be pretty chunky, like those cinderblock walls. And I wanted 'em to pile up good.

Bullet+[LW] Instances: Not that I know...I've tried and failed, if you get them working by some trickery, please do share.

Have you tried setting the item shape to box on the bullet settings for your snowflake? I think the default setting is 'mesh' or 'concave' which gives bullet a lot more work to do.

yep,

out of curiosity though, what should the final render look like?
wouldn't it take too long / be boring to see the snow pile up? how detailed should it be?

or should it be played fast-forward?
