Obviously doesn't apply to existing customers but more curious about Poser itself. Poser Debut appears on the mac app store for $20 or so, free if you kiss and tell elsewhere and the trial for poser 9 ($249) wants your credit card details first up. Poser Pro is $499 so the question is: how extensive or useful is the Collada/LW IO in PPro?

Thanx

i also wondered about Poser Pro 2010, it's quite a lot cheaper...

Poser Pro 2010 amazon price - $70 (http://www.amazon.com/Smith-Micro-Software-Inc-PSRPRO2010HBX2/dp/B003DAJSAM)
Poser Pro 2012 upgrade - $200 (http://poser.smithmicro.com/upgrade.html)
= $270 (you save $230)

so, if you are already a LW charter member, there is your discount :]

(but imo, a good idea is to just get the 2010 version for $70 and use PoserFusion (http://poser.smithmicro.com/poserfusion.html))

Thanks erikals. Unfortunatley Amazon won't ship Poser Pro 2010 to here ( even though I buy books from the US through them) and they don't offer it as a download. I guess the next question is; is it worth the spend for the 2012 Pro version? Or do I get the $20 version and answer the question myslef?:)

know anyone in the US?... :]
...or else it seems to get more expensive...

i can't say if it's worth it, depends on your use. for animated characters for archviz it could be good.
then again you could just use the free DAZ Studio and Jimmy|Rig Pro ($300)  (see my signature)

which also supports great blending of mocap and kinect mocap.

Thanks again. No one in the US I'd bother with such a menial task but bought Poser Debut for $20 anyway then downloaded DAZ Studio. I guess both would cost about the same to fully extend but Daz seems better in lots of ways first up. Yeah, been waiting for mac JummyRig but...

Problem is, AFAIK only poser pro lets you export rigged characters!

it'll be fairly easy to rig with Genoma though, i'm more curious if it exports morphs...

I don't know about the difference between Poser Pro and Poser regular, but LW adding the Poser software to their upgrade deal pulled me back in and was the deciding factor in me upgrading (from LW 9 to 11). I can't resist free stuff, no matter how much it costs. ;)

Welcome in then - I guarantee you won't be disappointed with LW11

(couldn't find any info on it :/

DazStudio(Pro) has really good export options, FBX, etc. and I find the animation workflow much more tolerable to boot. If you don't already have PoserPro, rather than trying to get by with Poser Debut I'd strongly recommend looking at DazStudioPro.

i just downloaded it, just need to see if DAZStudio supports facemorphs etc. to LW endomorphs.

"Mimic" is the Morphing tool for face from "DAZ". There is a Lite version for "DazStudio". But the most interesting version is "Mimic Pro" for "LighWave". But it's not sure that it's still available for sale.

The trouble is that it hasn't been updated for a long time. To use it, I use "LW8.5" as the host. Since it uses the "Endomorph", this is only a partial problem ;).

As an alternative to "Poser" I prefer "Quidam" with its export plugin for "LightWave". In free, there are "Make Human".

These tools are for people, but it doesn't replace a Modeler (even if "Quidam" is awesome for it that said :) ). This can make service also with an export to "3D Coat" for work in "Voxel".
