View Full Version : Tool for radially expanding a cone?

Hello

Is there a tool which will allow me to radially expand a cone?

What I mean is - to rotate each point at the cone base - using the cone apex as a pivot - inwards and outwards so as to narrow and widen the cone?

Interested to know of a Modeler modifier tool, a Layout displacement tool, and most ideally a nodal displacement tool.

Thanks!

'H' to size the points with the 'Mode action centre' as 'selection' ?

I must be missing something obvious. I'm not seeing 'Mode action centre' anywhere. ??

Bottom of the screen. It's just a button with ' mode' on it.
That's in Modeler BTW. Not thought about the layout side of things yet. Too late here for now.

Ah ok. Found the button. Thanks.

I haven't found the way to apply the tool to get the result I'm after yet though. Am trying to keep the radial edges of the cone a consistent length, and have them radially rotate back from a mostly closed position to a mostly open position.

Sounds like a radially symmetrical rotate.
Lightwave doesnt have radial symmetry, or rotational morphs if thats what you are doing.

if it is something like this I used twist with a linear falloff...then you can use stretch to expand it...

Not quite. Thanks for the suggestion though.

I found a way though. Generated the cone stretching into the z axis. Then in layout, nodal displacement, applied DP Kit Part Move - Stretch (apex being set to the centre of rotation). Stretch in x and y by sin (angle), and in z by cos (angle).
