View Full Version : Render Commander

Whats the deal with LW 11.0.3 and Render Commander? Do they play together? Or are we waiting an update? Or is there a new alternative (besides DLI_SNUB)?

Do you mean Renderfarm Commander (by Bruce Rayne)? That hasn't been updated in years and doesn't work with any modern version of Mac LW (the switch to universal binary, then 64 bit, killed it).

I'd love to see a new version released, and would gladly pay some filthy lucre for it too! So Bruce - if you're listening - pretty please!!

So i guess people are using DLI_SNUB instead?

Yep, I'm using DLI_SNUB, but it's not the complete solution that RF Commander was (which set up your nodes AND worked as a very smart screamernet controller).

The only way to get the same kind of functionality on Mac right now, is to use a combo of DLI-SNUB for the node setup, and OSX Screamernet Controller (http://www.jdavidbaker.com/screamernet/purchase.html) for the controller (which is pretty pricey IMHO).

Cheers Dan,

Youre right, that is expensive. Lets hope Bruce sees this thread and decides to update Renderfarm Controller.

The best way to encourage an update is to email him (http://www.brucerayne.com/contact.html). Personally, if he updated RFC to support modern LW (and OSX) with the same functionality as before, I'd be happy to pay a lot more than the mere $45 bux I paid originally (which was probably not enough to justify the time it took developing it - hence the lack of updates!)

LW on macs has improved massively since the days of v9.x - and hopefully the market for RFC has expanded a great deal since then too!

One good idea might be for Bruce to launch it as a Kickstarter (http://www.kickstarter.com) project. I know I'd sign up! Then he'd get a big chunk of cash up front to justify the time spent developing a new version - and maybe adding more features.

I mailed him with the idea. Ill let you know if anything comes back from Bruce.

I got a very quick reply from Bruce. His answer was, and i quote:
Funds are not the problem - time is. It is on my list of things to do as soon as I have a moment.

Awesome! We love you Bruce! (and really need a decent OSX easy-to-use screamernet solution!)
