View Full Version : Coloring instances from an image based on their starting position

So, I'm playing around with the test scene that Newtek released that shows how to use a B&W image to control the placement of instances. Works great. The initial placement looks like the logo.
I've used the "Instance Info" node before to color an object from the instance ID and a gradient (0 being the first instance, 1 being the last instance regardless of number of instances), but I was wondering if there was a way to color an Instance using an image and the initial position and having it hold onto that color while moving it around (like if you "tear" a logo apart and then rebuild it).
I tried using some of the outputs of the Instance Info, but they update as the instance moves so the color changes as it wanders over the image.

Sorry, the topic was meant to be a question, not a statement.
