This isn't really a VT question so if there's a better place to post this please let me know...

I live switch a weekly broadcast and send the "Prog Out" to a DVCam deck. If I re-use my Sony 30min DVCam cassettes what kind of quality degradation shld I expect?

How many times, if any, can I re-use the cassettes before needing new ones?

Is it necessary, if I can re-use the cassettes, to "blank" them between uses?

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

We use Mini DV Tapes. Our procedure is 5 Passes. I rewind tapes and put a number (from those old vhs labels) indicating the number of passes. After 5 the tapes are retired (donated or used for personal stuff or pitched). Once all of one number is used we start with the next and yadda, yadda, yadda. If any tape shows drop outs or abnormalities on any pass we retire it.

This has worked for us...DVCam may or may not be more forgiving but I think even 5 passes is pushing it but it's a money thing.
