Anyone else notice this IBC announcement?

09-14-2012, 05:32 PM
Yep. Already ordered 2.

Gonna make lots of my clients happy.

I didn't see the price listed, what are we looking at?

09-16-2012, 03:27 PM
About $15,000.

About $15,000.

I have a demo this week - have been quoted significantly higher due to software needs as well. Looks like the product we were developing in house and we will use our internal one for the smaller events which has its own movements etc using flash

Yeah, I'm not sure if Chyron still does all the components as optional paid add-ons, like Intelligent Interface, Macros, etc.

My contacts at Chyron told me there should be a full sales sheet available to us later this week. At least that is their goal.

I was told the Chyron IP ($15k) will be a single graphics channel out of the box with most if not all the Lyric software's capabilities intact. I was told there will be an option to add in a second channel of graphics (price still being determined) All output will be over IVGA's pathway even the 2nd channel.

Definitely some cool stuff coming.

I saw the IP product and they have a Lex3.1 product. The IP is fine for the tricaster and will produce 2 channels of graphics so each net input is happy. We do a lot of international events with local TV and ideally I want to give them a key and fill output on 2 x SDI outputs. The only trouble is that the IP at 11K turns into the LEx3.1 with SDI output and turns into 31K.

For the tricaster alone, the product is superb and has obviously been used for a number of years by the big boys. It seems you can handle just about everything with it if conditional formatting and decision processing.

I've asked if there would be any chance of adding the SDI key/fill option as an add-on but I had an idea if there is a device out there like the Blackmagic Television Studio which is a cheap mixer but may produce a key/fill output (tech spec says upstream key) - the Chyron could use IP transfer to this mixer and then use that for Key/Fill out also. Does anyone on this forum know if the BMD product has key and flll out ?

If you send a 450 the network output from a ChyronIP, you can in turn pass that downstream using two SDI outputs (fill and matte) from the TriCaster - just sayin'.

09-20-2012, 03:30 PM
Noooooooo way :) I found this in the manual talking about an 855

1. Open the Output Configuration panel (TriCaster 855 only), by clicking the Configure button (gear) above the main Program Output monitor.
2. Click the Output tab in Output Configuration, and enable the Output Alpha Matte switch.
3. Select a suitable source using the (Aux) Source menu.

I know I can take up two inputs for a key and fill from external systems - eager to know more Steve :) Section of manual (TriCaster Rev. 5 455 User Guide.pdf) ?

09-20-2012, 03:59 PM
You know, I'm thrilled (no really!) that you pointed that out - because the manual is wrong on that point, and a) I hadn't noticed it until now, and b) now I have something to do first thing in the morning tomorrow. :(

I'm 100% certain it was true when written, but somewhere along the way, this got added back in. Here is the Output Config pane from 455:

OK this works a treat (thanks and sorry for your early morning doco update) - I think it means we would need to take a 45x/85x solely as a fill/matte engine if we intend to use the main 45x/85x for recording or streaming. Am i right that there is no way to tell the tricaster that output 1 SDI should just be net1 all the time and still have a PGM for the stream/recording ?

09-21-2012, 04:37 AM
Further update whilst you sleep and I think this becomes a feature request. A further tickbox for the Output 1 to send key only (not the hardcoded PGM out). In many situations when you would work with a local host broadcaster, they will look after big screens/etc and they just want graphics. I would want my PGM to be recorded and to be stream but the 2 outputs would be the fill/matte purely. Unless there is something I have missed. Getting back to Chyron, this just means don't spend 20K on the Lex3.1 if you need SDI fill/matte - just buy another 450 and then you have other uses for it as well :)

Of course the 850 has 2 main outputs so on that model you would be still able to send PGM out on the main output.

09-24-2012, 07:54 AM
Hi Steve,

Am I right in that SDI 1 out is PGM only so we need a separate machine ?

09-24-2012, 08:15 AM
On any model other than an 8000, this would be true. (8000 has much more flexible output options than any prior model).

09-24-2012, 09:44 AM
mmmm and there I was thinking the 8000 was just a toy for me to wave around a yellow card with a picture on it and impress people at parties !!

Hi All, I'm Bill Hendler from Chyron. I'd be happy to answer any questions.

12-02-2012, 04:43 PM

Just recently purchased two ChyronIP systems. the Salespeople told us that interfacing Daktronics score system is now possible on this, yet when I call Chyron about setting this up, no one seems to have an answer exactly how you accomplish this task. Can you be of help to me?

I wanted to add to this thread there is a great White Paper on the Chyron IP system at http://567e0c0854d1f2813038-f25f85ead70c2d37f5cdbffb0589aa31.r9.cf1.rackcdn.co m/chyron_newtek_whitepaper.pdf

Hmmm...I wonder if a LEX 3.1 could be used as a ChyronIP...

03-07-2013, 03:33 PM
Hey NETgfx- I guess I gotta look at this forum more often! We're considering adding Tricaster support as an option to the LEX 3.1. PM me if you get a chance.

By the way, if anyone's coming to NAB, stop by the Chyron booth. We'll be showing audio support over IVGA for the Chyron IP.

Very nice. See you there

Chyron Bill/ Chyron CTO,

Sorry for the delayed response. I have been busy in the field doing productions. I tried calling your office yesterday asking for you and was told you, and almost half the company was laid off recently. The production company I work with just purchased $30,000 in Chyron IP equipment. Should I be concerned? Is Chyron going out of business? Looking for some answers.....

05-17-2013, 05:33 PM
Jon, the information I have from the good folks in our own business development and marketing teams indicates that NewTek's relationship with Chyron remains strong, and that we anticipate continuing to work closely with them in days to come. (Evidently, Chyron was courteous enough to reach out to inform us of some of the structural changes taking place recently there, and reaffirmed their commitment to our development partnership.)

I rather suspect it's probably not going to be fruitful to post questions here for a contact who is no longer at the firm. ;)

I do understand your concerns, and sympathize - but please note our forum policy regarding third-party vendors, which states in part: "If you have any problematical issues as a consumer or would-be consumer of those products, follow up directly with the vendor on their support venue or by private channels. Treat third party announcement posts as respected guests here."

We accord the identical courtesy to all of our development partners and vendors. You mentioned having reached Chyron by phone, but I'm happy to say that if you (or anyone else) require it, I have direct contact info for Chyron that I can share privately - just drop me an email or PM.
