Ol thread went the way of the DODo I am relaunching this thread.


And frankly now that we have seen a sneak peek of LW 11.5 I think we are in a better position to ask
for new features...

I am looking forward to your list.

Ideally: Alembic support and a unified app.

Realistically: Making all of the new features of LW 11 operate smoothly and easily, and an improvement/unification of the modelling toolset.

OK. If I'm able to choose 2 things for Lightwave 12 I would choose:

1) My first request is this small list bellow :)

Stack layered deform
Cage Deform
Mocap ( ipisoft and kinect support ) plus retarget
Autorig ( jimmy Rig way )
Auto-face animation recognize throught morphs ( kinda Jimmy Rig )
Muscles
Animation layers
Weight paint in layout
Sculpt and Point cache Animation in Layout
Camera view in modeler
Perspective view to camera view conversion
Ptex support
Pixar Subdivision Support
Joints integration with bones
IK Booster intergration with bones system ( pose copy, mirror pose,... )
Dpont Nodes incorporation
LW Cad incorporation
True Art Tools incorporation
Recognize and avoid mesh penetration between characters
Tone mapping

2) and my second request is keep the gray interface:) no white pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeee

Point Cache mixing editor

with Alembic too

OR

Much Improved Key-Framing system overhaul.

Vertex Maps creation in layout. . . all animation tools need to be in layout, not only in modeler.

Number1 : a LATTICE deformer in layout&modeler
With Pixar Sub D,s(love back 2 Modeler)
Number2: A VPR with beyond Fprime functions that
is not interrrupted by floating windows.

I'd like instances of instances - and I wish when you change a polygon's surface - that LW would remember the last one you picked so I don't have to scroll through 50 layer names to get to the one I want each time. If it would 'start' with the layer thta I picked last would be nice.

Really are we here again?

If it was up to me, and clearly its not, but I would scrap the idea of new features completely for the next version of LightWave. When will there be some focus on performance, interoperability, and a word that seems to be taboo around here anymore, unification?

Compromise? Add modeler tools into Layout...animateable.
Point/edge/poly move
Lathe
Extend
create/edit Weight maps
create/edit Endomorphs
create/edit UV maps
change and assign textures

Rob and Matt said 2 weeks ago they were well aware of it...

yep, a speed-up would be nice. and interactive tools for cut / bandsaw / boolean / array / lathe.

but even more, make the rotate tool and stretch tool work in perspective view (this is after all, LW11)

[/Begin Rant Mode] Non-photorealistic rendering toolset. I am not denying the suggestions already offered, but, ALL of the other packages now have either native or well-implemented NPR solutions (Freestyle for Blender, Pencil+ for 3DSMax, Sketch & Toon for Cinema 4D, etc.). Even modo just released their version. The fields of ArchViz, Animation, Anime, Illustration, Manga all depend on this capacity. Yes, I know about all of the "work-arounds" and convoluted displacement and node setups that can be made to work. Just because it can be done in this manner doesn't stand as an equivalent for actual NPR tools. What is wrong with straight forward presets, with preview (VPR??) that allow artistic control of line quality. Look at the other packages and dedicated tools. Particularly useful is when this is coupled with render passes for controlled compositing. [/End Rant Mode] ;>)

Two things for me would be an overhaul of the undo system to work with all components and tools in layout
as well as a modifier stack with some animatable modeling operations
