How can you hide all the fractures from being seen on a transparent object like a glass before it actually gets exploded?

Make two objects, one with, second without fracture. Edit their dissolve in Graph Editor.

I tried that. It no longer looks like glass till it is dissolved.

Dissolve item 1 + Dissolve item 2 = 1.0 (100%) always in animated envelope. Never exceed it.

You didn't make sure A+B=100% dissolve. There is visible even in render that second object is slightly visible (so ray-tracing is hitting internal object). Zoom in if you don't see it, slightly different color where will be fractures.

Use Step interpolation. Absolute no Hermite or Bezier interpolation!

From frame 0 to X dissolve 0%. Then in single frame X dissolve goes immediately to 100%.
Second object exactly reverse.
X frame = moment of impact.

Ray-tracing while calculating transparency cannot hit internal second copy of object..
