I know, Rob and other development team looked this opensource VFX tech. But I want to summerize some of them.

Alembic - http://alembic.io/
Alembic is an open computer graphics interchange framework. It contains tools for collaboration management and a generic, extensible, data representation scheme. Alembic distills complex, animated, scenes into non-procedural, application-independent, baked geometric results. This distillation of scenes into baked geometry is exactly analogous to the distillation of lighting and rendering scenes into rendered image data.

SeExpr is a simple expression language that we use to provide artistic control and customization to our core software. We use it for procedural geometry synthesis, image synthesis, simulation control, and much more.

Particles are an important part of effects work, because they allow free-form information in 3D space. Unfortunately, there is no standard format for particles akin to Wavefront .obj. Most animation systems have their own proprietary particle formats. The goal of Partio is to provide a unified interface akin to unified image libraries that makes it easier to load, save, and manipulate particle files.

OpenColorIO (OCIO) enables color transforms and image display to be handled in a consistent manner across multiple graphics applications. Unlike other color management solutions, OCIO is geared towards motion-picture post production, with an emphasis on visual effects and animation color pipelines.

The OSL project includes a complete language specification, a compiler from OSL to an intermediate assembly-like bytecode, a runtime library interpreter that executes the shaders (including just-in-time machine code generation using LLVM), and extensive standard shader function library. (next version Vray will support this)

OpenSubdiv is a set of open source libraries that implement high performance subdivision surface (subdiv) evaluation on massively parallel CPU and GPU architectures. This codepath is optimized for drawing deforming subdivs with static topology at interactive framerates. The resulting limit surface matches Pixar’s Renderman to numerical precision.

OpenVDB is an open source C++ library comprising a novel hierarchical data structure and a suite of tools for the efficient storage and manipulation of sparse volumetric data discretized on three-dimensional grids. It is developed and maintained by DreamWorks Animation for use in volumetric applications typically encountered in feature film production.

All are interesting, but OpenVDB is maybe what I was looking for for a project I've in mind.

I remember there was(maybe still is) osl-license.txt file in Core licenses folder. Not sure about the name. I think you can find it in lw folder too. Or maybe they dropped it. Sorry... Im on mobile now and cannot check it.

is an open source C++ library for reading, writing and manipulating a variety of standard particle formats (GEO,BGEO,PTC,PDB,PDA).

BRDF Explorer
is an application that allows the development and analysis of bidirectional reflectance distribution functions (BRDFs).

There are lots of opensource project... I only want to summarize the project the most usefull for LightWave 3D. I do not think, each project help LightWave...for example Maya Reticle or BRDF Explorer...
