Yes, really good quality. We can't see all of it (Hunger Games/Spiderman stuff) as it's not allowed to be shown over the net. Oh well. Still so far so good.

nice presentation so far.
(lol - they just addressed what I was about to comment on.)

When they are sitting there talking they need to take advantage of that big screen. NT needs to constantly be running a slide show (stills, clips w/o sound) on that thing. Nothing like stellar imagery to get peoples' attention as they're walking by. Certainly more so than two guys sitting and having a chat (zombies notwithstanding). :hey:

Ok. Question... why did GPL want Bohemian Grey Inc to do the animations at 60 fps? So they could use slow-mos or am I missing something?

Amazing how they finished that with budget cuts and a reduced team.

I have not, I don't actually have a lot of need for going back and forth, usually I just build in 3DC, export as LWO, then load it into LightWave.

Watched every newtek stream (when they had one) at siggraph for over 10 years.

This is BY FAR the best stream. Very nice.

Also, whats the specs of the demo machine on stage? I'm extremely impressed with the speed of VPR on his 'puter as opposed to mine. How did he scrub/play the timeline and still get a near render? Mine turns into large colored pixels when I scrub/playback in VPR.

He did mention quite a bit about the "unlimited renderer".. I'm not sure people outside of this community understands what that means because it's so rare outside here. I agree though. They should mention the render nodes per license.

Nice to see some positive reactions to the Genoma demo. Especially after some people were writing it off as pre-existing skelegon/plug in stuff (I paraphrase) based on preliminary literature.

It is an attractive feature. Perhaps not the "ultimate" way to rig, but does present an easier path to get new users into rigging and animating.

well thats not somethin easy to do in any package(mbuilder is one that has ik retargeting) but updating already animated ik rig with repositioned targets and bones is no easy task. if this comes with genoma i am sure it will come in later versions but that will need rewrite of ik system in lw imho..

for 1.0 version Genoma is fantastic addition for newby or advance users that want to go straight to animate instead spend all day rigging... not to mention this is very useful tool for tight deadlines!! impressive work Lino and team and thank you for bringing some love to CA in lw and getting back spotlight to it! i already have projects that will play nice with Genoma.

Just saw Cody Burke presenting the new modeling tools. They had a few translate tools that weren't shown in the LightWave magazine. They had a few tools that would allow you to move one object and snap it to a polygon or point of another object. Then another one that allowed you to use the components of one object as a center of action for another (say rotating the object around the other using its points as a center. Personally I think that last one should be an action center rather then a modeling tool. Those tools start with a pic prefix. Does that mean that they are pictrix tools (3rd party)?

I doubt they're third party. My guess is they are refactoring some of the Core code to work in Modeler. Although I am pleased with work on Modeler, what was shown still shows one of the underlying issues Modeler has - rampant tool proliferation.

I was Lucky to get a shirt, the magazine, win a Tofu figure and talk with the team, they are awesome and very deeply passionate, Rob seems so thankful to his team like a great manager should. That's the cement to a great team. As a french LightWaver i rarely get to meet people who love the software and I was excited.
Lino is awesome, johana the graphic designer is awesome too and has made a fantastic job on the magazine. Matt was taking care of the streaming, the show and has made a great job as you guys witnessed. I have the feeling that We'll be seeing even more cool stuff in and around LightWave soon. It's a good time to be a waver right Now. Exciting time !

The new tools are just the beginning of a rewriting i guess, they are interactive and behave differently so i'm sure modeler is getting some love and We'll see Some kick axx stuff soon.

Matt- You are probably aware of this, but there is a problem with the audio from the video clips being played back.

The only audio being heard through the stream for the clips appears to be from the open mic's on stage picking up what is coming through the PA. The audio levels for the Newtek "sizzle" reel (at least that is what our company calls theirs) is much lower than the mic levels for the talent.

And I sympathize with the video operator (I've done conventions before) but it appears that when they get the footage, they need to index the footage and mark out "subclips" That way when Rob says "Can we play that footage?" They can jump to the relevant footage rather than replaying the entire reel. Of course that only applies if they get the footage far enough in advance. When working a show and getting stuff on the fly, you are doing good to get the footage in the system and playback.

The timing listed is US Pacific time. I believe that would put it nine hours difference to Japan. (Or 15 hours difference, however you prefer to look at it.)

Is it 8 or 9? The daylight savings thing throws me.

Really enjoyed the live steam last night guys. Well done Rob, Matt and Lino.

My main points from day 1:

1. There was a lot of emphasis regarding 'one man/women shows' - Rob mentioned this on many occasions, "this was all done by one artist", "this was all one person, using Lightwave to model, animate and render", "so the train scene was just one guy; train, tracks, background, rendered?" It was good to hear, being a one man show myself.

2. Genoma - this looks like it is really going to speed up rigging in LW. I loved the way Lino just mirrored the rig and then connected both mirrors to a route bone and then moved, posed the rigged object in layout. I would like to see what happens to naming conventions when mirroring Genoma bones. I'll have to drop in this evening and see if Lino adds anything extra to the next Genoma presentation.

3. Softbody dynamics - the Dragon wings part of the presentation was excellent, really enjoyed that. I think there's a lot of potential with SB.

4. The marketing and PR is excellent. Rob is so on the ball (even with hilarious guests like Jordu Schell). It all looks well put together, good branding throughout, and the stream is super fast and clear.

Missed the UV unwrapping bit and new modeler tools, so hope to catch that again.

Would still like to know the PC spec being used for the presentation.

Good to know. I was impressed with the studio setup, Lino controlling the character behind the bars, Rob camera tracking and Deuce doing the lighting. Was I correct in thinking that Lino's headset was setup so that his voice triggered morph sequences on the Rabbit?

I totally agree. Gonna sound like a fan-boy, but I stoked right now. Change the rig in modeler, update in layout with rig intact. No mention of whether or not these changes will update if you've animated the rig.

Animation can be destroyed, as far as I remember from the description. However, looking at Genoma, I see that it creates controllers for you... if you only animate the controllers, and later need to change the rig, what one can do is to use Lernie Angs MultiMotion Loader/Saver to store all animations to .mot files, do the changes in Modeler to Genoma, and when it is updated in Layout, you simply select your controllers and use MultiMotion again to load the animation back.

:)

Sounds similar to the Locinator tool from this Maya thread (http://forums.newtek.com/showthread.php?t=129770)

There should be a second "update rig button" in Layout, one that would bake out keyframes, update rig & then reapply keyframes..or you can do it manually...it seems :hey:

I watched most of the online Siggraph presentations yesterday while I worked and everyone did a great job! I really enjoyed all of the presentations and interviews. I would guess Rob would have been somewhat exhausted by the end of the day doing so many interviews and presentations. Not French, but live in Los Angeles and was registered for Siggraph, but I hate Khan too! :)

I was so looking forward to going, way before any of the 11.5 goodness was leaked/announced. Then the wife reminded me that our annually scheduled vacation fell right on Siggraph. (I warned my wife that she couldn't schedule anything mid-July 2013, because I was able to purchase a 4-day Comic-Con pass).

But like most Americans, we are rarely unconnected and the office tracked me down. So I had to do a couple of hours of work, which gave me the opp to catch a few of the presentations while putting together LW renders for a design concept.

One question/suggestion comes to mind. What about getting Wiimotes support out of the box as well? They connect via Bluetooth, so no need for a game console as a part of the setup.

Also, who do I have to bribe/threaten to get one of those T-Shirts. Matt just goes silent/run away when I bug him about it :twak: Lino, grab me a medium and tell me where to send you the money :D

Better yet, get that type of swag up in a Zazzle store and let me throw money at it. I need a mug at work, a t-shirt for the nice weather, a mousepad at home and any other cool stuff that have a LW logo on it :)
