Speed Modelling Challenge #180 - Inner Space
*************************************************

Rules:

1. Every week there will be a subject for you to model along with a time limit. You should spend no longer than the allocated time, then post a render of your model. As in most challenges like this, your honesty on modelling times is essential. How you interpret the brief is up to you as long as the final model conforms to what is asked for.
2. Post a wire-frame and a render at 800x600 or larger.
3. LightWave must be used for modelling. 3rd party Plug-ins are allowed.
4. You can enter as many times as you like, posting each in this thread. If you run over the time, the model can still be posted but won't be subject to the judging.
5. Time spent on texturing, setting up a scene for a render and rendering is not included in the allocated period.
6. The winner is judged by the challenge starter and the prize is to set up the challenge after next week's .

This week's topic is: Inner Space http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HLAbTbGQcr8

Keeping things small for the time being, Can you model the teeny weeny sub from inner space. It doesn't have to be a copy just your take on it.

Extra small bonus points for creative appendages for the craft.

Have fun.

Time limit: 60 minutes
Deadline: Wed. 18th July 2012. 22:00 G.M.T.

Sorry for the delay.... :foreheads

Pretty tough in 1 Hour. Doesn't leave much time for the little details.

1 hr for ship (frantically). Only made it to the start of an articulated arm.
Let's just say it was ripped off in battle with the bad dude submarine.

A little extra time for the "Inner Space".

Not sure if I'm to late to push in this entry or not but what the heck I'm posting it anyways :)

This is what I managed in an hour... mostly it's just roughly blocked out with primitives and some bevels, the only detail I managed was on the main body, the windows and stuff... the rest is well... It'll do

Had fun working on this, so I'm definantly pushing some textures and shading in this shuttle later, but here are the wireframes

Really nicely done JoePoe ! Impressed by the level of detail you got in while keeping things subpatched

ArtGoblin - and I'm impressed with the sheer amount (and quality) that you were able to get done in an hour!!
I see, from the background of wire shot, you found the same reference image :hey: - although looking back, seems I've strayed quite a bit. You're spot on

Also liked your late entry from Massive challenge. Eyeball knees!!

Still, haven't gotten to the arms, but I did seem to manage to wrestle the windows in a bit better. (that section is still sub-d).

Like your windows a lot better now... I didn't have time to solve the window mesh nicely... so I kind'a just forced it in via pushing points and hoping I wouldn't create any obvious bulges in the main-body's shape

so since we used the same refernace I'm guessing there's not much going on in the back-area of the shuttle in yours either hehe

Ha! What back?? Or bottom for that matter!

Actually had a hard time finding a decent reference for this one. Surprising.
As luck would have it I just found a large and very detailed image (drawing)...post challenge, of course.

If your interested in going further with this I can post it 4 ya.

Finally, we can see what that front window is actually doing!

and believe it or not..... the back.

At first I thought the artist did some crazy combo image of front and back together... The lights of the front but clearly the tanks of the back. But then I thought, why would they put the back of the sub on the poster?? Until I found the second image..... It IS the back.....the back has lights too!!

Thanks guys! I was getting a bit worried......:gotpics:

Both well worth the wait and some lovely wires from you both.

I have to give it to ArtGoblin. I know it was a late entry, but then I was late starting this weeks challenge. Great wires and fantastic render.

Well done both of you!

Cheers.

:) nice !

it was a pitty we didn't have more entries but I guess that's how it's always been with these challenges, it's a bit random ups and downs... I still wished newtek would step-up and make some propaganda for these challenges somehow, not talking prices worth money or anything, just some propaganda pointing out the awesomeness of these challenges would be nice and probably give some more entries each turn.

But anyways, let's get on with the next one shall we?
