there was a thread pointing to the direction to get thickener that was updated for 11 and I lost that thread. Was on another computer. Could someone point me in the right direction. Thanks

Theres also a couple of ways to do it manually:
Flip the polys of the object and copy.
Flip polys back and use smooth shift or similar tool to "thicken"
Paste geometry back in and hit the m key to merge points.

Another way would be to copy the object, shrink or enlarge the original slightly. Paste geometry back in. Select polys on both and use the bridge tool.

Thanks for sharing that tutorial. Really useful - didn't know about the open mesh trick on Multishift like that.
