View Full Version : Laser show tunnel with foreground element obscuring rays

Hi There

My latest mission…
Am trying to set up a scene simulating a laser show - with 'laser tunnel' type effect e.g.

but with a foreground element (sitting between the camera and the laser sources) that will be shadowing out the lasers as they sweep.

The foreground element is displacing using DPkit Part Move, and also morph targets.

Obviously this could be done using volumetric lights - but you know, they take way too long to render.
And I think that I can reduce the complexity of the laser light cones by using appropriately surfaced cone shaped geometry. However, am stuck on how to get the geometry to shadow at the points where it intersects with the foreground element.
I've been tinkering with DP Boolean - thinking the answer might lie in there somewhere. But so far still scratching my head.

edit… or DP Ray Intersect?

Any help appreciated!

Have been trying to get DP Ray Intersect to work…

so far though, not working as expected. (Have tried a variety of settings that make sense to my way of thinking).

Really trying to fake the volumetric shadows you can see in the crowd in the attached YouTube screengrab.

Still asking for help...

Got it sorted.

Very quick fake volumetrics, thanks to DP's Ray Intersect node.
