Just released Janus 1.7, which is a major update.

One of the main feature updates is the offline method, which allows the user to create and modify passes without needing the load the scene into LW. Of course, there are workflow pre-requisites and limitations.

Another update to Janus is the script system which carries with it a new script that sends rendered images to After Effects comps. The script system allows custom scripts to coordinate with the inner data that Janus holds to peform some meaningful task.

Pseduo-satellite test rendering (PSAT), test rendering that occurs over an idle LWSN -2 farm, has also been updated to make use of more common workflows, making it more useful in everyday work.

Other notable updates are improvements of Janus's current workflow, which are more relevant to those already using Janus.

At any rate, for those who'd like a refresher on what Janus is about, I've posted up an overview (30mins long) at the site's front page that explains Janus as a whole, and some of the new 1.7 updates are featured there.

Maintenance videos (videos to inform Janus users of new stuff) are available, too; these videos are more detailed in regards to the new features I've mentioned.

To see the maintenance video explain the changes to PSAT rendering:

Can't connect to your site for some reason,

Ah, legacy crap. I just revised the link up there and in my sig. Should read faulknermano.com/janus (the old, and wrong one was janus.faulknermano.com)

Thanks for that. :)

Hmmm... sorry but i'm out of ideas at the moment. Tested the link on Windows FF, IE, and a separate Mac Safari and FF, and Ipad, too; all work fine.

Perhaps you can try the direct IP address: http://98.131.164.48 and see if that works?

That works but as soon a I click on something other than showreel or about cv I get the Server not found thingy. Maybe you can upload the vids to youtube or vimeo.

Ok, thanks for the feedback, guys. It's probably the site's DNS that's going wonky. It may get resolved soon, I hope. I'll post another update when the DNS it sorted.

(These things always happen to me. :( )

All links were working some hours ago... but not working now. There were a didactic video in the homepage. It was this (http://vimeo.com/43716203), I think.

Can't download the support files from the registered user page either. The main plugin link has a typo, but no incantation allows the support files to be retrieved. The video links are now working.

Thanks guys, offline method was the biggie, but the little aspects were the one that bugged me. :)

P.D. Your website and videos links are working here, Learnie, but videos can't play. Video in the homepage is working, though.

I've changed the links to the maintenance vids because, typical of me, they were wrong (eg 1.6 instead of 1.7).:help:

New links to maintenance vids:

http://faulknermano.com/janus/tutorials/maintenance/MaintenanceVideo_Janus_1.7_B51_R7_PT2.avi

This has been fixed.

Right, Phil?

I hope, by this time, DNS is good and people can access the site.:beerchug:

So any comments as to the state of Mac support? There was question whether it would work in the past, have you tried it with LW11 MacUB to see if it works there? Thanks!

Hi John. Sorry, but a Mac version is not available, and I'm not able to test it on LW11 at the moment (due to the OS requirements of LW11 on the Mac). If it magically works, cool! But I doubt it.

I'm not quite if it ever will be support for Mac. Phil here has been reminding me of it for years now. :) The problems is because the incompatibility is not so much of the code, per se, but something else that's making the LScript module itself choke. I've attempted it many times in the past, but I got nowhere near a half-functional version of Janus.

(And in case anyone asks about Janus being re-written in Python: Janus is too deep and big for me to port without quitting my work for a year. Well, I may be exaggerating :), but needless to say, on my own, using my own resources, it's not feasible.)

I just recently released the second revision of Janus and to coincide with that, I decided on Janus's new permanently reduced price of US$99. :beerchug:

faulknermano.... two things.

(1) The training video is TOP NOTCH! Your explanation is a winner in this incarnation. I reluctanted to buy this package but watching the video shows methe full power of the application in a journeymans way. Thanks for taking the time out to make them. I think you will see an increase in support.

(2) The price point is fantastic.

Many Thanks

Julian
