Speed Modelling Challenge #175 - Catchphrase!
*************************************************

Rules:

1. Every week there will be a subject for you to model along with a time limit. You should spend no longer than the allocated time, then post a render of your model. As in most challenges like this, your honesty on modelling times is essential. How you interpret the brief is up to you as long as the final model conforms to what is asked for.
2. Post a wire-frame and a render at 800x600 or larger.
3. LightWave must be used for modelling. 3rd party Plug-ins are allowed.
4. You can enter as many times as you like, posting each in this thread. If you run over the time, the model can still be posted but won't be subject to the judging.
5. Time spent on texturing, setting up a scene for a render and rendering is not included in the allocated period.
6. The winner is judged by the challenge starter and the prize is to set up the challenge after next week's .
*************************************************

This week's topic is: Catchphrase
Classic TV viewing, depict any saying, catchphrase or even item by means of a visual clue.

This clip (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qqb-j1cNPhQ) might help to grasp the concept for those unfamiliar with the TV show, and I've attached an image for starters. Just say what you see!

Time limit: 60 minutes
Deadline: Wed. 13th June 2012. 22:00 G.M.T.

Well not much of a catch phrase as it is a quote from a movie.
Any Guesses?

Aha, very good! :D

I was thinking, I can't have seen this film, but of course I have, many times.

Good job on the modelling!

*Possible answer spoiler*

Is it...

"There is no spoon" from the Matrix?

Cereal Killer is correct. I wanted to do, "Between a rock and a hard place" but couldn't figure out how to visually represent that. At least not in a way I could model in an hour.

Thanks for the opp. to distract myself from a major case of the Moving-House-Blues! I always loathed that bloody tweety bird as a kid so i'm grateful for how this challenge cheered me up! Thanks! :D Have fun guessing the obvious folks

@Iain. Is it the old classic; "Don't spill your Buckfast by a Scots goldfish"?

Sorry, that was in terribly poor taste ... :D

JoePoe, I like it!! Assault and Battery!! hehe

I'm getting a kick out of the creativity. The tweeties are awesome too.

Thought I'd give it my little amature shot here.

Iain

JoePoe, your 'assault and battery' is superb! :)

Bax33
06-13-2012, 03:49 PM
After posting I was thinking and perhaps I should have added a little more to my model such as put an army helmet on each bucket or have them carrying rifles. Just aligning 3000 buckets into a formation may have been a little abstract for the term I was going for. Thus my amature status. :-)

Iain, thanks... much appreciated. :boogiedow

Bax33, thank you too, but also for releasing me from my brain implosion!
BUCKET BRIGADE!!

(working on my second idea, but I'm already past deadline and time limit, but think I'll finish it up anyway. This is where I am at an hour..... maybe plus a couple.)

Sorry for the brain trama JoePoe. It seemed so obvious to me when I finished, but after time passed, I realized it need more. This is a great topic.

My entry, just about 42 minutes.

Doesn't anybody get it?

A "novel execution" of the subject matter.

JoePoe
06-14-2012, 12:40 PM
Shrox, I'm still thinking :stumped: (;D)..... is it Ayn Rand/Atlas Shrugged specific?
Or is it just how Reader's Digest gets it's version :D.

While I continue to think about that, think about this.... (and no it's not busy bee).

(Edit: uh, next time maybe I should read the whole post.... Novel Execution )

Excuse the slight delay in judging...

@Samoht VII, great way to get the challenge going, I like the choice of quote. Good that each indent is shaped to its cutlery piece. Renders should be at least 800x600 (in the rules) so we can get a good look :)

@Iain, another very good idea. A hole in one is not something my brief experience with golf suggests I would be getting in 1000 years (wasn't bad at putting mind). And a fish out of water is not something that could be said of you in these challenges.

@VictoryX, a nice knife and a very comic entry you had :) (is that a genuine cereal?) Nice texture on the box.

@XswampyX, nice choice of catchphrase, your modelling is always so clean and presentation so good I think I'd consider a box from you as a contender.

@akaracquel, glad you found an outlet for some stress relief, but poor Tweety! On second thoughts, he was quite annoying. I like the iridescence of poor diseased Tweety.

@Joepoe, a really nice entry there with that assault and battery, a shame it went over. I do like the dispersing of the spilled salt. I like that you've chosen quite complex subjects, that B-movie really is a great effort.

@Bax33, good stuff there, I have to say my guess was going to be... 'Bucket Rendering'!.

@shrox, nice guillotine, it had me flummoxed for a while and though I considered novel execution (and a million other permutations) I didn't think that would be it, I can't see why now I think of it. Great idea well executed (oops, Freudian pun there I think).

@Amurrell, late but still before my judging. And the answer is!... I have no idea :stumped:. I'll let someone else take a crack at it before soliciting the answer. Thanks for joining in :)

So on to the winner, who is... akaracquel for the demise two Tweeties. A little the worse for wear from the encounter with bird flu but instantly recognizable.

Nice job all, not the easiest by far as my failed bull in a china shop showed me, usually my rage-quitting is reserved for games rather than LightWave ;D

Come on then XswampyX, put me out of my misery, I'm baffled! :help:

(@ stevenp, B&E lol... that would have gone well with the "assault and battery"! Sorry for the am-bee-guity )
