:help:Hi all,
I am having difficulty in getting the Gold look good on these rings. Appreciate any help. Thanks

Are you using a reflection map for the gold surface or have you constructed an off camera "set" for those surfaces to pick up and reflect?

It sort of looks as if you've a light gray in your background settings and that's mostly what's getting picked up & muting the gold. You might try starting with black for the BG then add luminous "white cards" off camera for the metal to pick up. In addition, you might try using a Textured environment and creating a gradient for the BG coloring.

Hi Ma3rk, I am using a reflection map for the gold surface. I will try an off camera set as you suggested and see how it goes. Thanks for your help.

The diamonds are looking nice, you should render it out with HD quality thou.

I think adding a good HDR image probe would be nice for reflections, you should add a clean black image in the compositing background to avoid render the image probe itself.

I think that if you use the default lightwave gold surface and tweak it to your liking it will work nicely on that ring! Also, don't forget you can color the highlights (found on the advanced tab in the surface editor).

I have rendered in HD and placed file in Vimeo.. link below. View in couch mode with the windwo re-sized to suit to get the best viewing res.
Okay this is whatI have done so far.
- used an good HDR image
- used gradient layers in the Reflectio, diffuse and specularity channels
- tweaked color highlights

What i have not tried as yet is what Michael suggested .. ie
"clean black image in the compositing background to avoid render the image probe itself"
and I have not tried the studio set as suggested by Mark. I will also give the default LW gold surface a try.

Thanks heaps guys.

might be worth using the conductor material node for metal looks and reflective types.

activate the reflection blur in the nodes advanced tab, how much it is blurre is controled by roughness, if you use environment or hdr probe you set the mode to raytracing backdrop in the conductor node materials advanced tab, not the standard surface environment tab.

Please do check William Vaughanīs tutorial on how to set the the conductor material up. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YvbHxzgLB1I&feature=relmfu

Looks quite good now, perhaps some improvement on the quality is needed, do not now if itīs the compression conversion from vimeo or your own video compression or simply to little aliasing or something.

I like the color dispersion in the diamonds too..nice job.

I've done 12 passes.. so it looks good on my screen. I think its the vimeo compression. Thanks for the tips on Conductor node. It also came in handy. I think I am happy with what my results are.. I will keep on tweaking. Thanks for the comments on the diamonds. I do like the way they have come out. I spent ages on getting that right and then thought the gold would be simple. It was but I had missed some basics. Thanks all.
