Speed Modeling Challenge #171– Roman Empire

1. Every week there will be a subject for you to model along with a time limit. You should spend no longer than the allocated time, then post a render of your model. As in most challenges like this, your honesty on modeling times is essential. How you interpret the brief is up to you as long as the final model conforms to what is asked for.
2. Post a wire-frame and a render at 800x600 or larger.
3. LightWave must be used for modeling. 3rd party Plug-ins are allowed.
4. You can enter as many times as you like, posting each in this thread. If you run over the time, the model can still be posted but won't be subject to the judging.
5. Time spent on texturing, setting up a scene for a render and rendering is not included in the allocated period.
6. The winner is judged by the challenge starter and the prize is to set up the challenge after next week's .

This week's topic is: The Roman Empire

Anything from the Roman Empire: Art, artisan, architecture; military, machinery, money; Frank Sinatra, etc.

Time limit: 90 minutes
Deadline: Wed. 16th May 2012. 22:00 G.M.T.

Cool-I'm just back from a trip to beautiful Italy so I'm inspired. Snowed under with work but I'll try to get something done.

WooHoo! Found time for another one! (day off tomorrow :D )

My entry - Basic torc.
38 mins for the modelling (scary how much I've forgot!) and probably about the same if not a sniff more for the setup and renders.

Nice subject for this round.

Cheers all,

Not so much a model of the Pantheon as it is a suggestion of the Pantheon.:hey:

Roman Crown of Thornes

Original model took me 20 minutes but I went back and redid the thorns cause they were repeating to much. Final modeling time 45 Minutes.

Did I say something wrong or incorrect in my previous post? Please, tell me.

I see how you could have taken my comment in a negative way, but I was simply acknowledging your deserved pride in your country. I'm very sorry for the misunderstanding.

I think we are here to learn something new, even me, so I give a little extra info about why I did it. Thats all. :D
You don't know me but I tell you I have many great reasons to love all our planet and complete cosmos (serbian КО СМО С, in english translation means - who we are), so no offense. We are close and connected more then we know.
Next year we have great planetary celebration: The city of Nis celebrates 1700 Anniversary of the „Edict of Milan“ (313-2013). Welcome!

And, yeah, great entries guys!

Awesome stuff as always everyone!

VictoryX - another headpiece here... swear this was my initial thought before checking board, by then I was already in too deep. :beerchug:

Speaking of being in too deep. Not sure how to call this one. Spent a lot of time on things I didn't use, but most of my time cursing clone+ crash after crash. Anyway, close enough, I guess, to err on the side of overtime. :bangwall:

80 minutes for the mask & helmet sections. The eye piece took an extra 30-40mins..lost count...so I'm out :)

2200 GMT +1d. Time’s up.
The rundown:

Flakester: Torc: Beautifully surfaced clean modeling

VictoryX: Crown of Thorns: Also clean modeling, tight construction

MDSPECIFIC: Constantine Coin: Simple model but beautiful displacement/render

XswampyX: Jugs: Clean modeling. Clear demonstration of the power of good texturing/rendering

Chco2: Bath house: Clean modeling. One of more complex model of qualified entries.

Iain: Dice: Clean modeling. One of more complex model of qualified entries. Like the imperfections. Beautiful render

unstable: Spear: Clean model. Just wondering what’s going on with the handle in back? Looks flat.

JoePoe: Laurel Wreath: Also clean, fairly complex modeling. Top contender. But you say (?) overtime…So I’ll go with that, though you’re not sure. Nice job.

Kuzey: Helmut: Very nice model/surface/render. Thanks for the great effort, results. Sorry you were over time.

Close for a few. A roll of the dice makes Iain the winner.

Thanks, everyone. I believe JoePoe’s challenge is next.

Well deserved win Iain!
Grand work everyone.

05-17-2012, 09:58 PM
Congrats Iain.

Yes Rabbitpenny, I messed up the handle. It was my first model in LW 11. When I noticed the handle, I went back to fix and lost all textures. I didn't have time to redo it. It does look screwy. Just consider that it makes everyone else's look that much better. :-)

05-18-2012, 04:29 AM
Ah that's a surprise-thanks!

Kuzy: fantastic model! Great to see you back.

05-18-2012, 04:57 AM
Congrats Iain!
Really nice dices.

05-18-2012, 12:06 PM
Congratulations Iain!
Way to roll up another win ;)
