The point of this thread is to provide a centralized, findable index of free- and share-ware resources for the Lightwave animator. I was reading THIS THREAD (http://forums.newtek.com/showthread.php?p=1243181#post1243181) and there were so many great free apps that I was amazed, but at the same time bummed I'd never heard of a lot of them, and tired that I had to wade thru a ton of nattering to find out about them.

So, when you find a free or donation app (and please DO make a donation if you can or if you use something commercially), please enter a SHORT and to the point name and description of the app. Make it real "keywordy" so Searches find it reliably. --if you want to discuss the program in more depth, please start your own thread. Include a link.

If you use just a PART of a program, please list that too. For instance, Blender (apparently) has solid retopology tools, and it also has a sculpting capability. If you use Blender for sculpting, feel free to enter it under sculpting. Or if you use it just to migrate certain geometry formats, put that in.

Please use the below as a template for your entries.

ArtRage isn't free. Pretty cheap, but not free.

MyPaint (http://mypaint.intilinux.com/) however, is free.

As is Alchemy (http://al.chemy.org/).

I think the verymost basic version of ArtRage is free, but they certainly don't make it easy to tell, and believe me, I looked. I could certainly be wrong. In which case the link to MyPaint is even more appreciated.

BSurfaces (http://www.bsurfaces.info/)- modeling and retopologizing

VirtualDub (http://www.virtual-dub.com/)- video capture, video processing, light editing, video format conversion

Alchemy - http://al.chemy.org/

Useful for setting up the next stage of drawing or even just doodling ideas.

For Windows, Mac and Linux

Inkscape is a great vector based drawings program. I even prefer using it over Illustrator. I find it useful for adding text, arrows or other markings to renders that can be output at any resolution.

Open source doesn't mean free. They haven't realeased the source code so their promise was a lie, though. For me it's clear they never figured a business model after de OS statement. Maybe they though hardware could get them money, but never happened.

I simply can't use lightworks, can't figure how it works.

Cinelerra tried this business model first. Their editor was open sourced but impossible to compile and no binaries provided. They started selling a turnkey solution, but dropped the idea.
