Saw it tonight. Absolutely brilliant. Amazing effects, great characters, solid pacing, good script. For me, it was a straight five stars. Real edge of seat stuff and a proper rollercoaster from start to finish. A thoroughly enjoyable and entertaining movie. Best superhero movie ever? Very possibly, yes.

That was one of the best things about the Avengers. The Hulk is superb. The mo cap on Ruffalo really gives a great performance out of the Hulk.

Ruffalo and the Hulk is the standout - he's not in it very much, but boy when he is...

Also gets the two funniest scenes in the film!

Saw it last night and will echo what everyone else has said - it's really great! And yes, Ruffalo's Hulk was brilliant. I'm amazed at how well he managed to balance the characters. It really didn't feel like any of them were were given short shrift.

It's true -- :agree: --my wife & I are huge comic fans.
Of course we're from the Silver age of comics.
Nowadays, the comic stores just confuse us.
Too many titles and almost everything is bagged so you can't even browse to get a handle on what's going on.

I think the last thing I bought was Marvel's Civil War series (awesome).
Oh -- and the Marvel zombie heroes was pretty startling too.

So I 'fess up.

Yeah, comic stores these days are too much for me too. But I got the Marvel comics unlimited app for Google chrome. No bagged comics there. You can preview everything! For me, it's the only way to comic! It reminds me of being subscribed to Shounen Jump and getting that huge phone book with all their manga... except it's better because you also get access to all the back issues gong back to prehistorical times.

I've read things with it that I would have never bought in a comics store, like their Wizard of Oz, which was actually very good.

We went to see it and not only was the film great, there were two things I didn't expect. The first was that the packed auditorium wanted to be entertained and gave up the applause, cheers and laughs you want to hear at the cinema more often. Honestly, this was the best cinema outing since the Special Edition of Star Wars in 97 (at least until the cantina scene). The next thing was the 3D really actually worked! I've been one of the naysayers for the longest time but the stereoscopy actually adds to this film - I don't know if it was because we were quite far back in a huge screen, or that the projectionist was really on his/her game, but it popped!

Agreed. It was quite boring up to when the hulk revealed itself for the first time. After that it was great. But some people fell asleep the first hour.
So Adam Warlock and Silver Surfer will team up next. :D

Was a bit surprised that they managed to sneak in the bit of "offensive language" in the middle; considering the age cert :)

I had no intention of seeing this film. I'd grown tired and disillusioned by Hollywood's efforts of late, plus I've never been an Avengers fan (Spider-man, X-men and DareDevil were my stable) and even though I profess to being a born again comic fan, I've become very jaded at Hollywood's approach to comic book storytelling for the big screen. But as a last minute dot come idea, a few friends suggested we see it and so even though it was the late night showing and we were mad tired, we saw it.

I was so, glad I did.

Effing FANTASTIC!

THIS is how you make a comic book film.

Not a superhero film based on comic book characters.

A COMIC BOOK FILM!

Joss "effin" Whedon is a god.

As far as I'm concerned Joss has created a new genre of film and a path that should dictate the way Marvel, DC, Dark Horse etc will now have to follow in order to make successful COMIC BOOK FILMS.

The fans have spoken.

Can't wait to see the sequel (only if Mr Whedon's involve tho).

The only scene that seemed a bit fake was when the little ship is approaching the carrier and the back opens and you can see inside. That was a bit shocking, since all the much more difficult composites were absolutely 100% unsurapassable (just like the heroes)... (and just like the movie too, actually).

I'm just sad that I sat so close to the screen. The 3D effects were a bit stronger than I expected, and really called for watching from further back. Yes, that's my excuse for going to watch it again.

Hulk and Loki at the Stark Tower is absolutelly the best moment of the film :)

The film is so good and funny.

The FX are crazy! Too much top level! The best VXF companies working together ( Weta, ILM, Digital Domain and several others )

Upon further reflection, I'm amazed that Whedon was able to hold people in their seats for 2 hrs 22minutes". That's an astonishing accomplishment. In the "old days" they used to have an intermission in a film this long.

Think on that for a bit.

To me the middle part was really boring up to Loki got free.
The people I watched with who are not comic fans liked Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol and Sherlock Holmes better than this movie. I kind of agree except the last part of Avengers really saved it. But without the hulk...hmmm.

How cool is Hulk?! After seeing the avenger, I want to be just like him, I want to grow big and green. Well, not greeen, just big. I'll workout even more to become like hulk! Maybe, some day.... Or better like ronnie coleman, more human. Hmmmm, maybe it would be too much even to become like Ronnie... so like Sylvester! Yes, like Rambo! But I don't have time, the vietkong are long dead... soooo, let me see, like... Weel, I should be realist, I'll become like Homer. Some day!
I should quit forums after this last joke...
But the movie was really entertaining, I didn't see a such nice movie for a long time. And the Hulk is just great! Seriously!

Well, I didn't like the story, so it was a very long movie. Modern movies have automatic vertigo (continous action) to keep audiences interested.

There were several moments in which all cinema laughed loudly. One of those when soldier on bridge in aircraft carrier played in old spaceships game :)
