Hi all,

Looking for suggestions to create sun spots that appear as gradient spots (dark in the centre and lighter grey on the outsides) that can grow and shrink and also move around the surface of the sun.
Any suggestions would be very helpful, thanks.

Regards, Nigel

if you want control of the sunspot, I would probably use a null as a reference object to control placement and scaling of painted/animated image or procedurals with animation options.

Otherwise find right procedurals for the sunspots and treat them as a seperate layer over other procedurals for the sun surface, but will be tricky.

sample images..no sunspot directly, just showcasing use of lightwave native procedurals for a sun surface.

Dark Tree simbiont shaders has some space shaders including sun, but Im not sure if there was a sunspot control option in there, have to reinstall.

Hello Prometheus,

Thanks for the reply, I never thought about using a null reference so I will look at that. As for the dark tree shaders I will have to pass for it is way to expensive.

Hopefully someone else might be able to throw their eyes this way too so I can harvest their knowledge.

The simbiont shaders do not cost you a thing, they are free, dark tree software is the software used to create shaders and that cost, but not those shaders I pointed to.
For other useful Free procedurals..visit dponts nodes and rman collection textures..there should be one plugin for standard layers and one plugin for nodes, be sure to chec flow noise, garder clouds etc..
