View Full Version : Selection un-uniformed polygons

Lately I have been building a large complex stadium for a client.

When I use the tool Details/Add Edges, often it will display the error

" Failed to build the solid structure "
" Please unify or hide duplicate polygons "

Most of the time it's two polygons lying exactly on top of each other or
a polygon within the structure that doesn't need to be there.

My method of finding the offending polygons is to cut half of the structure
into another layer, then run Add Edges again to see which half contains the problem. Then repeat until I am down to a few polys.

But this is very tedious.

Seeing that lightwave can detect that I have these offending polygons,
can it somehow select them for me?

Or is there a plugin that can select them?

ps. The align / unify polys tools is not an option as in my very high poly count model it often flips polys the wrong way.
Then I have no way of telling which / and how many polys it just attemped to " fix "

Use statistics. Go into Edges mode and using statistics select all edges with more than 2 polygons. (2 being the norm for manifold meshes; >2 signifying a non-manifold mesh). That will highlight the edges of the overlapping polygons. You'll have to do the cleanup manually. But this search method should atleast be a faster than your manual binary/divide-and-conquer search.
