Got a wild hair to see if this would actually work... and amazingly enough, it does!

No tricks, no photoshop, this is the real McCoy:

LightWave 3D 4.0, running on Windows 3.11, running in DosBox... running on Android - and rendering!!!!!!!

Gotta love LightWave for being ever light on system requirements, and Android for being so damn capable.

Not terribly useful, but I figured you guys would get a laugh out of it.

Hehe, now imagine Android Renderfarm :). They are pushing out Quad CORE CPUs for phones anyway so it's not so unbelievable in future ;).

I'm still amazed that it works at all. And all things considered, the render times aren't that bad. This rendered in just under 12 minutes, 2 lights, one with ray traced shadows, low anti-alising. It probably renders faster than the computers LW 4 was originally written to run on!!

For some of the magazine work I do, they ask for smaller versions for their iPad/Kindle editions. I'd love to render something for them on my phone!

Thats awesome! I remember that interface well! I forgot how far we've come with LW.

but what about screen sharing on a tablet with all the resources of a full tower PC at your disposal with twelve cores and forty gigabytes of ram connected to a file server, running LW11 with all the latest plugins, wouldn't that be just slightly better.

Sometimes the journey is the destination... :D

Well, I lied when I initially said no Photoshop... There is a bit of Photoshop... Photoshop 2.5 running perfectly on Windows 3.1 that is!!

This gives new meaning to the term "Mobile Workstation"!

I tried LW 5.5, but it was a no-go. I'll have to try to dig up my old LW 5.0.

If your phone is jailbroken, there's an app called DOSpad, which is a port of the same DosBox that runs on other platforms. A google search comes back with people claiming to have gotten Windows 3.1 running in it.
