I usually pick up a double-double (Canadian term for coffee with 2 sugar- 2 cream) at McDonalds in the morning and some days I get a Coke Froster/Slurpee for the afternoon in my refillable auger cup. Just curious what everyone else drinks while doing your work?

Diet Coke in abnormal quantities.

Jasmine Green Tea @175 degrees.

And ps: diet coke contains Aspartame, which is very unhealthy. It is actually forbidden in a number of countries.

Water or a fruit+nuts/seeds+full milk+cream smoothie prepared by myself. Coke or any other mainstream soft drink is toxic waste to me, diet or not.

Breakfast tea, frequently. British style. (Hot, with a touch of milk.)

We even have a "condition" (or perhaps "complaint") that we refer to as "Tea belly," which is when you've drunk too many cups of tea, too quickly, and you can just feel the hot tea lapping at the base of your windpipe.

(And before anybody from the US pipes up with "I like peppermint tea with a hint of mint!" I must stamp on that thought and insist that only tea is "tea". It's the leaf of the tea plant. If something doesn't have leaves from a tea plant in it, it isn't tea. It's an infusion or somesuch other watery offense. Honestly, look on Wikipedia. It's a specific plant. If I were to make you a nice cup of "coffee" using some tasty black beans from Baja Fresh, you wouldn't have it that it was really coffee, would you? Well why not? It's got beans in it. And I don't care that Starbucks has "Delicious Grapeskin and Wolf Sebum Tea!" on offer. It's not tea... it doesn't have any tea in it... grr...)

From what I understand it isn't known if it is bad for you. But to avoid the chemical from altering itself, keep foods that contain it in cool, dry places. That slows the spontaneous self-reaction that changes the chemical conformation of Aspartame to the alternate form.

yerba mate, a kind of tea or infussion. I'm not south american but while I was studying at Argentina I got used to drink it (mostly in the winter) and now I can't stop :) .With this, a liter of water a day (minimum) is guaranteed and it's healthier than a coke (no offense)

Diet soda, brand agnostic. I try not to worry about the chemicals but I do wish Stevia sweetened diet drinks weren't so damned expensive.

P.S. it's the caffeine baby.

Just because you pour it into a coffee cup, doesn't make it coffee.

From what I understand it isn't known if it is bad for you. But to avoid the chemical from altering itself, keep foods that contain it in cool, dry places. That slows the spontaneous self-reaction that changes the chemical conformation of Aspartame to the alternate form.

All the *industry funded* research says it's not proven unhealthy, while 90% of the independent research says it is to be avoided - hence some countries banning the substance (I believe Japan and one of the Scandinavian ones, can't recall which one precisely). Identical situation compared to the 60's/70's when tobacco companies kept insisting smoking was not bad for your health at all.

Well, it's your brain cells that go a-awasting (caffeine + aspartame = brain cells dying in a euphoric implosion)

And any artificial sweetener more often than not causes weight gain.

ps did you know air pilots are not allowed to drink any diet sodas due to aspartame inducing neurological visual 'side effects'?

Mate is bitter as sucking a nickel, you need to start drinking very young to like it.

My mother brings some when she visits me, and also sometimes brings mate de coca (coca leaves).

Nonsense.
Aspartame is one of the most tested additives to food. Nothing bad has been proven unless taken in extreme quantities.
Don't go by rumour, read up on it.

BIG steamy cuppa tea, strong and milky, made with literally any decent brand of tea though I try to get organic if I can. As Cardboard has already made exceptionally clear - it *must* be a proper tea from a proper tea leaf from a proper tea tree. Rolled on the thigh of a beautiful lady tea-picker is preferable though optional. 'Fruity' is a word that should never be associated with tea. If I wanted something that smells of raspberry and tastes of nothing then I'd eat my sprog's scratch and sniff book.

Also, most importantly, I use raw (unpasteurised) full fat creamy milk. If I'm feeling really decadent I'll drop three sweeteners in too, but honestly with that milk you don't need them.

If not tea - tap water. I am a simple being, so my wife keeps reminding me.

Work: mostly tea (sometimes with milk) or coffee in the morning. Earl Grey tea is my favo(u)rite. If I use sugar at all I tend to use regular sugar. I hate the aftertaste from artificial sweeteners (including soft drinks) even if they prove to be the healthiest thing on earth. Sweet tea with lemon is nice too, especially on cold days.

Relaxing: Jack+coke (not diet) will do

It's horrible! It doesn't taste sweet to me at all! And just an one swallow, (usually through a straw) gives me a headache!

Coffee in insane quantities... french press, black, no sugar.
However, also fairly weak. Which is o.k. since it's a french press and also because of the insane quantities.

Back in the 80's and 90's it was Jolt Cola "All the Sugar and Twice the Caffeine". Now I'm old and it's just filtered tap water. Guess it's now called Jolt energy drink.
