View Full Version : How to split object into layers?

How can I (easily) break up an object into multiple layers?
I modeled a brick wall, created from one individual brick, and each brick needs to be in its own separate layer.

I'm creating a simulation in RealFlow 5.0. In order for every object to have dynamics, each piece needs to be in separate layers, otherwise the brick wall will be one solid piece.

I have done small scale experiments, where I have manually placed each brick into a separate layer. That worked, which is fine for a small amount, but when a brick wall has hundreds or thousands of bricks, it could be extremely time consuming.

Is there a plugin or something that I can do to help automate this?
..or am I just being incredibly lazy and looking for the cheap way out? :D

Thanks in advance!

(Distribute comes with the crackit plugin... might be buggy on Mac though, not sure)

maybe try evenflcw's suggestion...

Thank you very much for the help, you saved me quite a headache :D

I couldn't get crack it to work correctly but distribute worked exactly as needed. Thanks again!

-On another note, is there a replacement of flay.com or another data base of plugins?

The catalog isn't as large as Flay's but it's the best we got right now.

LightWave 11 can do it. Connected to Lyrs is what you need.
