View Full Version : Maya nCache importer

I don't suppose anyone has ever thought of bringing an Maya nCache (.mc files) importer to lightwave? I could then import particles from anywhere I think, including ICE.

Hmm, I gotta study up on this stuff more it's confusing. My documentation says that nCache is the same as .xml files. Where as in a particle context elsewhere it calls nCache .mc files. what?

Yeah I've seen the PC2 and MCC stuff from Dennis. Question is, what do I connect the cache nodes to for point clouds. I mean the points don't actually appear in the scene and It doesn't appear to work with the LW emitter.

I think I'm simply gonna get the real flow learning edition. I believe .bin format is what is going to enable me to connect any particle flow stuff between the apps. using the plugins from next limit. Then I can render anywhere depending on the project. I want to do experiments so the non-commercial version of RF will get me far enough.

I'm not expert at softimage, just started reading stuff on internet, but if I'm not wrong you could use this to export liquid and other stuff from softimage to other software.

Yep, polygonizer is native in Softimage now. It doesn't export a particle format that Lightwave understands apparently. However I can indeed import mesh sequences and point cache mesh displacements into Lightwave all day from SI. But this is much different from importing a point cloud based cache, as I have found in my research so far.

So in essence we have three different structures that may or may not use the same formats.

We have:

-) Mesh Sequencing where the polygonal topology is different for each frame.

-) Mesh Displacements where the point order and topology remains the same.

-) Point cloud emissions which need some kind of an cummulative translation between the apps. Usually done through applying the cache to an emitter some how.
