these kind of intros should be banned. CG dudes on steroids in oversized armors brandishing oversized guns and adjusting the straps of their overarticulated suit is an untolerably bad and annoying cliché. I hate it.

Not sure how to feel about this... The first one was a decent B sci-fi flick, but the rest of the live action just went downhill. The cartoon helped to resuscitate it. But none really went back to the source material. Troopers were huge force multipliers. IIRC a small squad of 6 could deal with a lot of territory because of their weapons and jump system in their suits.

Not impressed. I love the first one. Tongue in cheek actioner. This looks like the start of a game... it is a movie right? and not a game? if its a game then fair enough.

Comes down to story. I can't imagine they'd stick with the original material very well, since the idea of promoting civic duty is inconceivable, nowadays. But if they made the soldiers more sophisticated and dangerous than Middle Ages harquebusiers*, then it might be fun to watch.

The bugs from the bad movie were, of course, great.

* Best review of the bad movie here (http://www.sff.net/people/doylemacdonald/r_startro.htm). Lets you know how incredibly bad the soldiers are, from a military perspective.

It tells you what it is and what it' s about by pressing the blog button in the link from the first post. Some quotes...

" Starship Troopers is based on the novel by Robert A Heinlein and it was then adapted to live action movies with Ed Neumeier’s scripts. This time out, we wanted to go fresh and not replicate either the novel or the previous live action films. "

" The story centers around 2 teams of Roughnecks: the Alpha 1 team embarking on a mission to rescue Fort Casey and the K-12 team already stationed at Fort Casey. The two war-depleted squads must band together with a common objective, but personalities and ambition ensure a bumpy ride. "

" Even for a CGI-only production, we were somewhat daunted by the challenge of a well balanced story & dialogue, and the scope of the action sequences and vast bug battles. "

First thought? That it was the ending to Roughnecks that they had mothballed all those years ago.

Looks amazing. But, it could be a game. Could be a movie... wait and see...

It' s a CGI MOVIE. It says in their blog.

Hmm... then it COULD be a play on the Roughnecks ending... Interesting...

No fear of cliché there.

I'm not impressed with this chromatic aberration effect that most recent CG like this has.
It's the new cheesy lensflare...

I watched it again. That camera move at the end, that complemented the bug's lunge... that was straight out of the cartoon.
