I'm not much of a compositor so maybe someone can tell me how far off these render passes are. They just look waaay too noisy and flat to me except for the face on the diffuse shading one.

As you can see, there isn't that kind of noise going on in the beauty pass, so what's up with this?

Maybe I'll try Janus.

What exactly are you trying to do here Jason? Get an ffx shadow pass?

If so... then I can report that ur a lil bit out of luck atm. FFX will deliver a proper shadow pass in simple geos, but seemingly not more complex ones... Also getting a shadow pass from fur mode works better than long hair guide mode. Ive got it all fogged.

What Ive done in the meantime for long hair, is to create a shadow pass separately by turning off ffx, turning on render lines, thickness 1px, hide the guides from camera, and capture their shadow.

ok, yeah I need a shadow pass for the hair shadow on the face. I was hoping LW11 would do it now. I'll try that guide shadow thing. Shadow catcher I found to be useless for a head's shadows.

But what I'm really not getting here is why the shadow pass for the face itself is all grainy looking. I really cranked on the AA so. Maybe the Adaptive Sampling is doing it.

its interference from the ffx not working quite correctly... ditch the hair (as a test) and do it and ull get a different result.

Nope, shadow pass still looks like doody when I delete the FFX filter.

Okay, good news I managed to get a good looking shadow pass out of the LW11 buffer that includes the FFX shadows! Now I have to find out what was causing the problem. bbl

Edit: Yep! It was the Adaptive Sampling. Don't use that with shadow pass buffer =P.

Jason... great find.

I already had a bug open specifically for ffx shadow catching probs, but from ur findings it may well not be ffx itself at all.

Would u be so kind as to add your findings to my existing report... case; 43342, cheers.

Will do, thanks for your findings as well.

BTW, this shadow pass works ok with Fprime renders it seems. I still have to render out an animation to be sure however.

Hey RebelHill, I think I need the letters after the ticket case number. Do you have that? FobBugz can't find your case it seems. I sent in a ticket with your case number in the title but the email has a different ticket #, hopefully they can put 2 n 2 together.

So, how does one export the motion vectors for FFX? They appear to be black in the motion x and motion y buffers. ZDepth option in the Etc. tab just outputs a blank white image.

Edit: I see where I went wrong with the depth pass. It needs to be something similar to a RGBFP (floating point) exr. Still doesn't explain how to get motion vectors for the hairs though.

Hmmm... dunno there...

but Ive done it using the motionvectors image filter plugin thats been around for few years (32bit only)

Something like this? I think that'll only work with the guide polys though, not the fiber filter.

Some stuff I didn't know about for hair vectors. Might help others too.
