Congratz to Newtek on LW eleven's handling of complex rigs and detailed geometry. When noodling around with Rhiggit (not a modest rig at all), I was able to get a 68K mesh to animate in OGL at about 24 framers per second using Exact Rate and Multithreaded Mesh Eval. Anyway, you animators should check it out for sure.
