View Full Version : Calibrating monitors, decks, etc.

Hello. I am king of the newbies.

Just unpacked the toaster today.

What is the best way to setup betacamsp decks and monitors with toaster. I have been working a lot with DV, so deck calibration wasn't a concern.

But I wanted to hook up the betacam decks to allow additional formats.

Is the auto calibration on each input a good start, or should I use the camera color bars, or house generated color bars.

Thanks. Any tips would be great.

Whoops sorry about that.

I guess you can see, I am new to the forum as well.

V3 is the system
Component Betacam SP decks are the source and record

Pro VHS deck, composite in and outs as alt. source and record deck.

DV deck thru firewire. Not applicable here.

I dove into the manual and read the section on using the inputs with the proc amp. I have already run clean house color bars through composite 1 a and did both a manual and auto calibration for practice using the wave and vector scopes.

Is auto cal reliable?

How should I calibrate the decks?
Record house bars on tape and use that signal?
Flip all settings back to there presets so I don't introduce any other signal distortion?

Like I said, I did a lot of work with DV so deck calibration wasn't a concern. But having the additional inputs of the SX-8, I want to add the Betacam SP decks from an older edit suite.

Any help is would be great.

Thanks in advance
