Speed Modelling Challenge #162 – Vampire & Werewolf Slayer's arsenal
*************************************************
Rules:

1. Every week there will be a subject for you to model along with a time limit. You should spend no longer than the allocated time, then post a render of your model. As in most challenges like this, your honesty on modeling times is essential. How you interpret the brief is up to you as long as the final model conforms to what is asked for.
2. Post a wire-frame and a render at 800x600 or larger.
3. LightWave must be used for modeling. 3rd party Plug ins are allowed.
4. You can enter as many times as you like, posting each in this thread. If you run over the time, the model can still be posted but won't be subject to the judging.
5. Time spent on texturing, setting up a scene for a render and rendering is not included in the allocated period.
*************************************************

This week's topic is: Vampire & Warewolf Slayer's arsenal

I almost forgot!
Now I have to model something. :D

I was watching The Monster Squad (1987) last week, one of many favored scary movies from my childhood.
Anything goes: crosses, wooden sticks, bible, holy water, garlic, crossbow, arrows, silver bullets, UV rays gadgets, fire etc., or your custom made weapon.
Have fun!

Time limit: 120min.
Deadline: Wed. 14th march 2012. 22:00 G.M.T

Guess I should read more carefully and make a better model. Maybe I can think of another.

About 45 mins for the basic modelling, and a fair bit more for setting it up. Bullet came in handy for the capsules. :hey:

holy snakes that's a pretty wireframe there XswampyX !

I made an attempt at a crossbow-gun and an arrow to go with it... also I had planned on modeling a whole garlic that I was gonna stake on the tip of the arrow-bolt but alas I ran out of time... in fact I only realised I had run out of time when I was half an hour over the 2hour limit... but screw it I say, It was a nice sub-D training for me and fun to do anyways :)

Love the cross akaracquel, You could do some damage with that! Is it made of chocolate?

Cheers!

Nice entries guys/girls!
I truly appreciate your time and efforts!

XswampyX, my friend, mind sharing your light/radiosity/hdri image setup? No need for scene file or something, just couple of screen grabs.

ArtGoblin, kids growing to fast these days. It's very cute!
I think I need to make some of my one these days, I mean this year. :D
But then again, they say that those things can never been planned. :)

Back to work, see ya!

Not at all.

1 x area light. No ambient light.
Textured background.
32 max samples. I had alot of noise after the refraction on the thread of the jar.
Over sized render. Reduce to 800x640 in gimp.
A sprinkle of DOF.
Over sample @ 0.5 to get the classic look.
Looks a bit dull in the VPR preview, but I think that's because of the reduced number of bounces/refractions.
Save the output as a Linear HDR.
Small adjustments in Photomatix.

Tada!

@XswampyX - I did start off with a test render to see how my chocolate surface libraries are going ^_^ Wanted a rusted bronze or copper/moss texture but had no luck in the node editor attempting the scratched gold foil method you used for the Ancient Egypt challenge. Reached the point of needing to take a break by the time I settled for the mahogany/masurbjork kind of look which I'm not keen with. I'll have to try your method again but know i'll need to work on something completely off tangent/different first, which always helps when i hit the walls in this medium :hey:

Heh heh, I know what you mean. Things always look clearer after leaving them for awhile. The occlusion node would work great with that cross.

Keep up the good work.

A simple silver bullet.............

Very pretty, but why is the casing silver? it isn't shot at the werewolf, so it should probably be left as brass or steel.

Ahh Iain beat me to it. :)

Silver bullets. Wanted to go for the processes of a rod of silver, then the mold used to make the bullet then to the bullet it self. Was fun to get back into modeling

Kinda a pain to get the texture of silver.

Nice work everyone. Way to go Monster Squad!

That looks better Iain, seems strange how people can criticize a silver bullet casing, but don't have a problem with Vampires and Werewolves? :D

If all else fails distract the werewolf.....

I guess that all depends on your definition of a werewolf and vampire as both do exist, in some form or another :)

OK I accept that 'vampire' is open to interpretation but 'werewolf' is pretty specific is it not?
Do you know someone who turns into an anthropomorphic wolf every full moon?

A transforming human is just one kind of mythological werewolf. The berserkers of Norse mythology, the returning dead in Serbia, and even tales of things such as the Skin-walkers of certain Native American traditions.

More likely real vampires and werewolves are Sociopaths and Psychopaths in modern society and were the origin for such tales in mythology (serial killers and social manipulators).

....but here's my story (not looking for any special consideration).

HUGE fire in Boston!! Knocked out power in most of the city for the last day and a half. What was I doing doing the instant power kicked off?? Literally walking down the hall to hit save on my renders.

Anyway, back up and running this morning. Thought I'd post anyway.

And to Iain and Wittywop, I swear I did the bullet (yes, including the deboss on the casing) over the weekend! Logged in Tuesday, saw you two, and realized.... "man, now I gotta do a gun too...#@!?$".

But, couldn't finish that in time. Something seems to be missing... I can't quite put my finger (or hand, I should say) on it. The gun (including bullet) wire bellow is 2:20, so I'm over for the gun anyway. The final render, for what it's worth, is the bullet only. BTW, just in case it isn't painfully clear, it's a holy water bullet.:hey:

No need for debate guys, this is just modeling challenge. :)
The theme was about weapons against the vampires and werewolfs as we know it from the big and tv screens. The movie fun industries has nothing much with the real facts, history and mythology. The truth is very different and have completely different background.

Thanks everyone for participating!

Rabbitpenny: Nice looking sun, nice and clean sub-d modeling and of course the Sun is the most powerful weapon or protector in our universe. Like that face!

Warre: Sven Black Sheep and Black Sheep movie, my first thoughts, ha, ha. Nice and clean model, scary render. :D Imagine sheep in action, sucking the count Dracula's neck, ha ha ha.

Bax33: Clean model and nice render. Nothing without sticks! But where's the vampire? :D

XswampyX: Mr Dracula, want some pills? You want? Why not, it's so cute, yellow and the garlic label is wrong? Come on, taste it, you want regret. :D Ha, ha, ha. Nice and clean modeling, cool render, i simply want to eat this plastic-gummy cap.
Tennis ball, man I will throw meat or bacon ball if you ask me. :) Nice render!
Thanks for screen grabs!

ArtGoblin: Crossbow is fantastic, very clean and precise modeling! Like it very much, to bad for overtiming but also for not putting the render with textured model. Please do that and put the render in the gallery section.

akaracquel: Hello beauty, I like your chocolate in every shape and form. :D Cool sub-d modeling, to bad for your overtime.

Iain: My friend, those bullets are quite expensive don't you think? It's better we go with serial model number two. :) Nice and clean modeling, nice garlic to! I prefer second render.

Wittywop: Modeling is very clear, bullet are very nice. Big caliber, we playing safe, smart. :)

JoePoe: Original gun, with cross hammer and holly water bullets. Nice clean sub-d model, nice bullets. Since you're overtime, or if you have time you should finish it with the gun handle. I like it!

The winner is, it's going to be boring but what can I do, like I sad he is Lightwave steroids man.
XswampyX congratulation!

Thanks again for participating!

Genius invention JoePoe. Had to get a UPS to deal with the frequent brown/blackouts we get here. I always get weary of storms developing in the middle of a long render! X_X :)

Congratulations Lightwave Steroids Man! :D

Thanks guys :) not surprising that this post got lost since I only shaded & textured the entry a week after the challange was over hehe... If I had to do some nitpicking on it myself it would be that this crossbow wouldn't do much against beasts or rabbits alike since the string is way to slack. Best case scenario the bolt would drop out of the barrel
