I could use some advice.

I have an object that measured 120mm according to Lightwave and the grid.

I exported it as an STL for 3D printing.

But the STL object in the export was 1/10th the size: 12mm.

What setting is causing this discrepancy?

Thanks!

Lightwave's unit of measurement is the meter. A 1 meter cube will export to a 1mm cube in stl. Scale the model 100,000% then export to get the correct stl file . A 1 inch cube in lw has to scaled 3937% to get a 1 inch stl cube.

Thanks, Benny. That is very helpful.

How did you export to an STL file?

I have been thinking of getting an inexpensive 3D printer but they require STL files and about 2 years ago I asked here and nobody had a solution to exporting to STL.

Thanks!

I used an older Lightwave plugin for exporting (and importing) STLs. I found the link here on the forum somewhere.

It is called SHM STL Exporter 1.12. Maybe Google will find it.

And I do not have a 3D printer; I will use iMaterialize.com to print the object.
