Hi there,

Blender has this neat material mode that only shows shadow on that object. This is also neat for compositing. Like in the layout object properties' render tab you can set the object unseen by camera and cast shadows etc. Could there be added a mode that only renders the shadow on that object? I hope this is clear, and perhaps it's already there? I hope so!

Have fun,

Wybren

1) In object properties you can override the colour of the object, and make it a matte object, basically rendering it in black.
2) in the surface editor (Advanced->Alpha Channel) you can tell LW to use the shadow density on an object as the alph channel.

If you combine those two, you can easily generate shadows for compositing. The only caveat is that shadows generated by radiosity calulations don't affect the surface.

Cheers,
Mike

"TransShadow 7" may help (but it doesn't work with Radiosity):

"This plugin makes it possible to composit shadows over backdrops and skyballs using a simple ground polygon. You apply this script to the poly and it makes ever part that dosen't fall in a shadow transparent. The color of the surface controls the color of the shadow and it works well with spinny lights to get soft shadows. Please remember to make the poly uneffected by fog."

Bye.
