View Full Version : Grounded feet for motion capture animation

I use IPI desktop studio to record my own motion data. ( BVH format )
Then through Animeeple or JimmyRig I get my data nicely into my
rig in lightwave. My rig includes extra holder bones, fingers bones, eye bones and a toe bone on each foot.
The problem is that my feet constanty go through the floor.
And this problem is worse with characters with largish feet.

My question to the pros is...

How can I build a rig that stops feet from going through the floor?
And still allows me to (load items from scene) load my BVH motion
onto my rig.

or this there an easy way the foot data can be fixed in the BVH before
I merge it into my master rig scene?

Really... you want the program that does your retargeting to take care of floor contact for you. Animeeple should do that, iPi certainly can.

Infact, if you're just wanting an ipi to LW workflow, ull find it pretty quick and easy to cut out the inbetweens altogether... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=51juos0TsS8

Unless you're talking about the problems of having great big clodhopper feet, where its not ground penetration on standing/stepping, but during the foot passing across during walk etc (namely the toe section, etc getting pushed through the floor). If that's the case, then you will need some sort of mocap editing facility... Motionbuilder, obviously... though you can also use Ikinemas web animate.

Or hol doout a couple weeks or so... I should have something for this getting added to my rigging tools soon.
