Speed Modelling Challenge #161 Ancient Egypt

1. Every week there will be a subject for you to model along with a time limit. You should spend no longer than the allocated time, then post a render of your model. As in most challenges like this, your honesty on modeling times is essential. How you interpret the brief is up to you as long as the final model conforms to what is asked for.
2. Post a wire-frame and a render at 800x600 or larger.
3. LightWave must be used for modeling. 3rd party Plug ins are allowed.
4. You can enter as many times as you like, posting each in this thread. If you run over the time, the model can still be posted but won't be subject to the judging.
5. Time spent on texturing, setting up a scene for a render and rendering is not included in the allocated period.

This week's topic is: Ancient Egypt: Mummies and monuments, jewelry and hieroglyphs, scrolls and barges, tools and temples. Anything that strikes your imagination. Speaking of "striking" don't forget Cleopatra's asp.

Time Limit - 60 minutes.

Deadline: Wed. 7th March 2012. 22:00 G.M.T

Oh way cool... just happens to be my son's topic of school work at the moment.... and I know they didn't use hair dryers :)

Temple of Karnak Ruin:

Cage image shows main building block for columns with 4 face surfaces. Array,random spin of segments, top, taper, array columns, random spin of columns: Result is fast, random looking columns (sort of).

Love to.

Just texture your object with gold shiny, and gold dull. Then use a gradient connected to the material mixer, driven by a scratched texture to mix the two. If you use a gradient node you can fine tune the mixing on the fly to get the effect you want.

I reality you have to texture your object 3 times.

@akaracquel: Shame, as I loved the way you display the final render.

Not a lot of entries, but high quality:

Warre: Anubis statue is beautifully done with minimum poly count. Nice surfacing. I can't wait to see what you submit in future contests.:)

Akaracquel: Beautiful Bastet statue. Complex sub d on the face. well done. Nice asymmetries like the broken ear. Rich texturing.

Iain: 20 minute Temple of Luxor. At that rate, they could have built the pyramids in a week. Efficient and faithful model.

XswampyX: Although the modelling is very clean, efficient, the mummy is too scary to consider for this contest. :)
The Scarab Escutcheon is fantastic. Looking past the wonderful surface, the modeling makes the work of art. Subtle work, expertly done.

XswampyX wins.

@warre - very surprised to see the wires in the Anubis Statue, well done :)
@Rabbitpenny - loved the wires, thanks for sharing the sequence of construction - pretty good randomness in them :)
@Iain - great mystery in the interior, makes me want to go walkabout to see it from the inside :)
