can anyone advise me of a good way to create dust kicking up with footsteps. i have a 6 legged robot and would like to have a little dust when a foot hits the ground. thanks.

you can parent some partikel emitter to the foots and give the ground a collision fx, so when the foot touches the ground the partikel emitter spit partikels out
itīs an idea , i didnīt ever try it , good luck!

I've done lots of dust, and yes, particles are the way to go. You have to really play with the wind to get it to look right, use sprite HV's, and mess with the density fading over time. Watch out for big render times, though! I had a logo that fell from the sky and had dust as it hit the ground, probably a total of 6 seconds of dust that took the better part of a week with 5 LWSN nodes crunching it.
