Is there anyway that LW's cameras can read the metadata from images from digital cameras? This might be handy for camera matching shots. Thanks.

That's neat! I didn't know LW had this ability.

Somewhat related: at work we embed LW camera data in the metadata of our .exr files. We use this data in Fusion along with the World Pos data to pin elements to pixels in 3D space in Fusion--in other words instant 3D tracking! This saved me a ton of time on our last job.

We still use LW FBX for the actual camera path though. You can technically animate the camera position/rotation with the embedded metadata without using an actual path but it's very slow compared to using an actual keyframed path from an FBX file. We also suspect motion blur doesn't work when you animate a Fusion camera using metadata but I don't think anybody here has checked for that yet. Likewise, I'm guessing that if you did the same thing in LW using an image sequence, you probably won't get camera blur in LW either.

Anyway, just thought others here would find that interesting.

Thanks Nick! Weird place for it. Maybe we can get Matt to put in a second button on the main panel: "Get camera metadata from image".

I didn't realize the link I posted was in the LW11 section. Here's how to read the metadata for those who don't have access.

"Use the real lens camera and let it read the exif data from a file."
