View Full Version : Zbrush FiberMesh to Fiber FX (cumbersome way to do it but it works)

hi everyone, i finally found a way to export the fibermesh to ffx guide. (based on boris goreta technique)

here the steps

1 - Create your fiber mesh in zbrush (you have to know exactly the number of fiber you have created, and better to avoid volume, just quad hair is better)(in my example i have created 50000 guides) then enable Fiber UV.

2- export to OBJ

3- Open in lightwave . open the Fiber UV and delete one vertical side of the vertex in the UV MODE (then it will remain only 2 points poly )

4- open the obj in text application and keep only the vertex information
i.e. v 0.124 1.253 5.236

delete ALL the other text.

5- create a new object in modeler and lunch fiber fx and create the same kind of guide (in my case it was a 3 edges guide. and in the guide number of ffx enter the zbrush value of the guide ( in my case it was 50000)

6- save as OBJ

7- open the ffx obj and delete all the informations of vertex

i.e. v 0.124 1.253 5.236

keep only the text from the first

g group_Fiber_Default_Fixed
usemtl Fiber_Default_Fixed
s off
p 1/1
g group_Fiber_Default
usemtl Fiber_Default
s off
l 2/2 1/1
l 3/3 2/2
l 4/4 3/3

until the end.

8- copy the whole block and copy at the end of the previous modifier Zbrush obj

9 open in lightwave

10 render in FFX !

here the result.

really LOVE it!

I hope the FFX banding pattern will be fix in final lw 11!

I'm wondering why Strand Maker in modeler doesn't work for fiber obj. FiberMesh seems great but so far I cannot use it because of it. Is this the only way to use it? Edit text files???

in my test ,strand maker made a one point poly at each edge but we only need one at the root.

for the moment i can rely on the wordpad.

its just a straight way to.do it so you will lose uv and weight.

That's exactly it. LW11 can now solve this?

Sounds like some smart coder at Newtek could happily add this to the GoZ function?

in the last beta, NO.

I believe Boris had a post on this exact topic, with video (to sasquatch, but appears to make 1pp at only one end, through selection of the UV points)

What does the notepad editing do that his video doesn't?

have a great day

SORRY ! i didnt check the video by boris. but where can i get the MAKE 1 POINT POLY script?

FOUND IT ! hide in the modeler EDIT - EDIT MENU LAYOUT - search for make 1

it will show the make 1 point polygons script.
